Onslaught Illustrates The Gravitational Pull of Pastiche
Adam Wingard and Simon Barrett’s The Guest (2014) was a film in some ways just a little bit ahead of its cultural moment.

This is probably a more or less consensus opinion among Western decision makers at this point which is a shame given that it's a thing you have to be literally insane to believe

Hi folks. For Long Library I wrote about two very different midcentury films in which Spencer Tracy confronts societies cultivating mass amnesia in the wake of war and atrocity. Read it here if you'd like peterraleigh.substack.com/p/nobody-knew
Triumphantly returning from Medbed Hypersleep to cast a vote on the Rural Hospital Abolition Act. That's beautiful.
Mitch McConnell in a social media post said that he will return to the Senate floor and cast his first vote since his hospitalization in June. See more: https://www.wkyt.com/2026/09/14/mcconnell-confirms-he-will-return-senate-cast-first-vote-since-hospitalization/

Folks, for Long Library, I wrote about Ridley Scott's Hannibal, its position in the broader context of Thomas Harris's work, and the pleasures of watching a film that holds us in no higher regard than we deserve. Tap in! peterraleigh.substack.com/p/the-joy-of...
Please help out Alex if you can or share the link around. 2026 has been tough on her & she deserves the world. She is amazingly kind and lovely and brilliant.
My 2026 has been a divorce-shaped Stygian nightmare of housing insecurity, drifting between Airbnbs, couchsurfing + housesitting. But the goddess just blessed me with my own tiny apartment! I need to move/furnish it for myself + kid almost from scratch: a humble call for help if you can to do so!
