Toby - wittering about cars, technology, showtunes and other stuff since… ooh, ages ago.
What a glorious thing! And what a story. It's in the Smithsonian now.
The most absolutely massive flex from the state fair exhibit. This quilt is made of 40 years of prize ribbons from various categories at the New Mexico State Fair won by Carol St. Clair Johnson. She also won a prize for this quilt.
I'm sorry, but what? A medical school has its own police force?
“A high-ranking member of the UMass Chan Medical School campus police is scheduled to face charges of drunken driving after he allegedly crashed into several cars in July. Lt. Gregory Markiewicz is third in command within the medical school’s Public Safety Department.” #Massachusetts
Went to the terrific M.C. Escher exhibition at Somerset House. It was accessed via the perfect staircase...

Any frank assessment of your achievements starts with an equally frank assessment of the world-historic forces that attended those achievements. For example, I often tell people who want to get into tech, "If you lack the foresight and work ethic to be born in 1971, I can't really help you." 1/
Just saw “Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma” - enjoyed it, but I have to say it's giving me most confusing thoughts about Count Binface and Margaret Thatcher...

Nicely done! An apparently trivial thread which becomes genuinely significant.
Selective time travel is one of the most interesting aspects of SF narratives around time. A lot of shows will talk about “fixed points” in time, essentially to prevent the characters from strategically or logistically deploying time travel to dismantle the crisis the story is about.
Imagine losing your parents at 86! This dreadfully confusing headline is from the BBC News app.
"Help me! HELP MEEEE!!"
Just a couple big-headed flies making more big-headed flies, which I appreciate so I can see more big-headed flies 😁 #Pipunculidae #FlySchool2026 Costa Rica [PS: Jim Hogue is about to wow us w/these flies & their close relatives the hover flies!] @flygirlnhm.bsky.social @dipteracourse.bsky.social
A terrific thread - very inspiring. (Although: nothing older than the mid-Fifties)
Rewarding movies for new film nerds.

there is a recurring prompt around what’s the best that anyone has ever looked on camera and I never have an answer but I’m watching right now and I think it’s gotta be George Clooney in Ocean’s 11
One topic that really interests me is masculinity in classic film John Wayne and Clark Gable would be featured in scenes specifically designed to make them look like the manliest thing in the room. Robert Mitchum and Humphrey Bogart would walk in and automatically be the manliest thing in the room
At least this time Harold (Kane) did a bit better.
Spent years building up a big following on Twitter, essential for publicising my aviation blog, which I live from. Desperate to leave it & publicise on nicer platforms, but I have too few follows. If you want to help me escape, do give this a share. Much obliged. My blog here: hushkit.substack.com
Mel Brooks is 100 today! Thanks for everything, Mel.
This may be useful for British people with access to a freezer.
Swamp coolers are very easy to make and can cool down a moderately sized room. All you need is a Styrofoam cooler, some ice or frozen jelly packs a small fan and maybe an elbow PBC pipe.
Did Iran sign the peace deal as a... birthday present for Trump?
We lose the "N" and maybe in a while we'll need a sign that says "DONALD J TRUMP DEATH".
ok but who gets the letters
