An old, dog-eared novel, a grizzly hide rug, the corniest puns wrapped in baritone hugs, black licorice toffee, something absurd, and a musical number with too many words.

In a recent TTRPG campaign, I played an evil necromancer. A demonic hivemind threatened to cut into my profits, so I arranged for the entire city to be sanctified as holy land to a minor god after quick but careful negotiations with a paladin of that god. I'm still laughing.

NEW: A Utah mother posted what she felt was an innocuous family video to IG/FB. Later, she noticed a Meta AI prompt encouraging her to investigate her own family -- and watched as the AI drew on years of social media posts to compile intelligence about her and her kids. futurism.com/artificial-i...

Mother Horrified When Meta's AI Scours Instagram and Facebook for Invasive Information About Her Young Daughters

Kalie Robins shared a video of her and her daughter singing. Meta AI started prompting her to investigate information about her family.

Decluttering and estate planning, much to my surprise. Watching my parents rush to downsize as my dad's health fled, then watching my mom deal with the bureaucracy of my dad's death, combined with a new understanding of how my mental health conflicts with housework, and this is how I end my 40s.

What are you doing with your midlife existential crisis? No wrong answers. Just trying to see something, as the kids say.

I'm reminded of when I got the Pooka kithbook for the Changeling TTRPG, and it had a merit that allowed you to change forms without losing or destroying your clothing. But before that, there was no mention anywhere that changing forms caused you to lose or destroy your clothing. That wasn't a thing.

Singing telegram. Sears duster. Factory strudel conveyor. Unofficial telemarketer. Birthday clown. Working the 4pm to midnight shift on a construction site without training or experience. Automotive service advisor who knew nothing about cars (didn't even have a driver's licence). Odd jobs aplenty.

Happy labor day (USA). What's one of the oddest paid job you've had? Mine was probably as a reader for a medical professor at Rutgers, whose eyes were failing. I read him many academic texts, as well as Samuel Butler's "The Way of All Flesh."

We keep discussing ”strategies” for teaching in the age of AI to avoid talking about resources. It’s so boring!! The strategy is invest $ to hire people, lower class size, support research-engaged learning & stop measuring the worth of disciplines in relation to # of enrollments and majors.

We know how to teach books in the age of AI: small classes, close reading, research-engaged learning (which is how you ’let students see you struggle’). The issue is nobody will hire and pay the requisite # of faculty to offer this.

I've lost a favourite pendant. It's probably at home, somewhere, but I have this persistent fear that my body went through one of its "I can't handle this touching me right now" phases without engaging my conscious mind, and I removed it somewhere random.

I'm at that weird balance point in my mental health where I'm feeling the urge to do something interesting, while not being interested in anything.

“Trump’s move to rename Lake Ontario may be forgotten by Monday and is more evidence of a dying presidency, but the fact Carney used an Indigenous name to argue for Canadian sovereignty carries far more weight than most may know.” 👏👏👏 #cdnpoli

In this weekend’s @winnipegfreepress.com column, I openly wonder if Carney understands the implications of what he actually did. www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/2026/0...

If you have a Gmail account, you need to read this. Google's AI now scans your emails and attachments, bank statements, tax files, medical letters, all of it. It turned on by default, and there's a class-action lawsuit over how. Here are 5 moves to shut it off, the switch is hidden in two places:

A reminder for my fellow creatives: if you do not take breaks, your mind is going to take them for you. And you're not going to enjoy how it does that.

Introduce yourself with 10 acts you've seen live: It looks like this just means musicians? Bryan Adams Bruce Springsteen Weird Al Great Big Sea Keith Kitchen Geoff Moore and the Distance Sharon, Lois, and Bram ... the local symphony? Probably some other local singers and choirs I'm forgetting?

I feel like an issue that would connect well with voters would be doing anything at all to slow the current progression toward "absolutely everything now is a scam"

#MythAugust 30 The first story I tried to write in this world was set just after the martyrdom of a religious visionary, as her followers tried to decide what to do next. The second story I tried to write was set in the midst of a religious war. The first TTRPG I wrote of this setting used 1/2

#MythAugust 30 You've been chatting about your fictional gods & religions all month, but how much do these things play a role in the story you're trying to tell? Is it just cool worldbuilding flavor, or is it essential to the plot & characters? Maybe all of the above?

#MythAugust prompt for Aug 30:
What role does the mythology play in your story? Is it crucial to your plot/characters, or just a cool background detail?

Background image features a classic painting of Thor wielding his hammer with lightning, about to smote his enemies.
Below the hashtag in small text it says "Presented by @professoremily.bsky.social."
At the bottom of the image in small text it says "Feel free to yap about a fantasy mythology you already have, or use these prompts to create a new one! Don't forget to interact with others :-)"
