This is true, but what is even more incredible is that approximately 71% of eligible free Black men of military age in the Northern free states volunteered to serve in the Union army and navy.

Nearly 180,000 Black men served in the Union Army. Another 19,000 in the Navy. Black soldiers accounted for roughly 10% of Union military deaths. A large portion of each were formerly enslaved. I imagine they gave a damn about slavery.

I quite happily live in a neighborhood where most people do not share my religion, where multiple languages are represented, and where people have come from a lot of different countries. Bigoted assholes always assume everyone else actually shares their bigotries.

This isn't a stretch based on assumptions or interpretations, or just some unpublished notes and letters. He very plainly said she was the co-author at the time. This dedication is in the first edition, published a year after she had died.

Aid to Ukraine from 2022-2026 was a rounding error. We used more in the first two weeks of the Iran war than we provided in the 4 years of aid to Ukraine.

Last month the NYT said AOC "struggled" to give an answer on Taiwan and quoted her with "uhs" and "ums" to make her look stupid Yesterday talking about Hormuz Trump claimed he's heard from "numerous countries" and said "uh" four times. The NYT deleted the "uhs" and paraphrased him to look smarter:

Sometimes it’s really hard to not despair at the collapse of any attempt to practice good government in the favor of policymaking for viral appeal. The idea that gets the most retweets is often not correct! All the correct answers to complicated issues are not already known by your friends online.

For Epiphany, this glorious 1966 illustration of the Three Kings by the great Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000), best remembered for his enormous contribution to Disney Animation's visual style during the 1950s, particularly Sleeping Beauty (1959).

With a palette of just black, gold, and hues of blue, the Three Kings bearing gifts stand in a row, almost column-like, on the left half of the composition, with the seated Mary and Christ child on the right, against a great, ornamented, circular halo of gold.

i do think that if you are going to put egyptian mummies on display, that the room they are in should at least have a Ka door, and that there should be food placed on the lintel. the Rosicrucian Museum has one of those upstairs in the Akhenaten exhibit and it changed my opinion on repatriation.
