Our statement on the EHRC Code of Practice.

Today is the last day for signatures to be added to EDM 240 before the new guidance becomes statutory. Thank you to @libdems.org.uk MPs @rozsavage.bsky.social and @monicaharding.bsky.social for signing, along with the vast majority of Lib Dem MPs. 🧡 The fight for fairness is only beginning. 16/

Exempting broadly-defined "health" services from this bill would be a bit like exempting "fuel" services from a bill about CO2 reduction. There must be no carve-outs or loop holes for abusive practices, in healthcare or otherwise, for this to be anything like what has been promised, for years.

The new EHRC Code of Practice is not fit for purpose. It does not provide clear guidance or do enough to protect everyone from discrimination, and it is not compatible with longstanding British values. @EdDavey.LibDems.org.uk and @MarieCGoldman.bsky.social have written to Bridget Phillipson. ⬇️

In yesterday’s Pride Month debate, I reiterated my calls for more lesbians – and more people from across the LGBTQ+ community – to stand for election, whether that be in local elections or for Parliament.
