We just completed Nusantara, @thedigradio.bsky.social's 8-part series on the history of Indonesia. The fourth largest country is barely understood in the West and yet has decisively shaped the world: from Dutch colonialism to third world revolution to US-backed mass anti-communist genocide. 1/

“[The Art of Star Wars: Andor (The Complete Series)] is a myriad of colours and talent that will, I have no doubt, be regarded as among the finest of its kind for many years to come. Art book lover are spoilt as ‘The Art of The Mandalorian and Grogu’ arrives to us later this Autumn.”

I'm somewhat indifferent to Christopher Nolan's films and this @economist.com article I think puts my feelings into words. His plots are clever, but I rarely emotionally connect with the characters. www.economist.com/culture/2026...
Why Sir Christopher Nolan inspires such devotion—and contempt
His films are ambitious and technically brilliant, but often emotionally detached

Old dan art of Hayao Miyazaki's Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Easily one of my favourite stories. I would like to revisit this again someday. #art #digitalart #hayaomiyazaki #Nausicaa #Nausicaä #ghibli #fanart
"Why are audiences not coming back fro second season of our shows?" "Because they're waiting to see if you cancel it like everything else, and also there's too long a gap between seasons." "No, that can't be it."

If you loved the first Ninth Jedi short from 2021 as much as I did you will love the show. After seeing the first episode I can confidently say that it feels like a proper continuation of where it all started. A 'What if' for Star Wars with a high fantasy twist. All 8 episodes drop August 5th!
We just watched #Supergirl… why does Hollywood keep making adaptations that ignore the source material? The “Woman of Tomorrow” comic is a great story about trauma and revenge. The film completely misses the point of it.

Singaporean artist Leia Ham reimagined LotR as Tale of the Middle Kingdom, since Chinese name for China (Zhōngguó) means "The Middle Kingdom." Her concept art includes the Fellowship, armors, buildings like Bag End, props like Aragorn's banner and Fellowship brooches, and more. #TolkienTrewsday

Movie question 🎬 What film soundtrack absolutely transformed the emotional experience of the movie?
4 years ago in the Telltale Games Alumni FB group, Michael Parsons was asking if anyone had advice for helping his 15 year old son Kane achieve his dreams of being a filmmaker. Turned out alright.
among the biggest problems with television today, the lack of economic or logistical pressure to actually make shows is among the greatest. (1/14)
This is my one criticism of #Andor. I love the show, but it falls into the trope of "spy thriller = humorless, super-intelligent people".
I think this is something not enough TV/film understands at the moment. You don’t need jokes. But human behavior — human beings — are innately ridiculous and absurd , and making room for that in a Very Serious Picture is, imo, an essential component

You don’t get the big-swing episodes that WORK unless you also occasionally have the risky/desperate/out-there big-swing episodes that sometimes don’t work (but fans will make fun of for the next 20 years, which is its own form of fun)
Who wants to wait three years for something like six episodes? Especially in shows that have a plot-arc? That's barely enough and feels rushed. In the past, shows had plot-stories but also filler-episodes that still were great. Or just monster/alien/criminal-of-the-week. And they were fine.
The waits between seasons doubled in last 10 yrs — & this piece doesn’t get into it, but when execs also demand shorter seasons, in some cases way too short, the end result = audiences that just don’t engage with shows/characters the same way. www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/w...
The Wait Between TV Seasons Is Getting Longer, It’s Not Your Imagination
A study says the average gap between seasons of TV has reached a new high, with scripted originals on streaming taking an average of 21 months to return.

We really enjoyed #TheMandalorianandGrogu! It’s a fun adventure and has some nice character development for Grogu.

I just found out that one of the major inspirations for Andor is my favorite show of all time, a french village. Ok, ok. That, along with the school year ending, will make me finally finish the show. Here's hoping it's as good as everyone says!

This seems very tentative but i will nonetheless seize the moment to reiterate my view that a fundamental reason Jackson LOTR works and almost no other Tolkien adaptations do is that it has actual Tolkien dialogue/prose to work with and is extraordinarily creative about finding ways to use it

"Bigger isn’t necessarily better,” Hudson said. “If I’m excited about a game and then I find out that it’s 200 hours long — even if I have no ambition to actually finish it — I wonder, if I put 20 hours in, will I even be out of act one? A lot of players just want to play something and finish it.”
