BREAKING: Police just surrounded Rev. William Barber, prominent activist and pastor, as he and others prayed in the U.S. Capitol Rontunda. Police then expelled everyone (including press!) from the Rotunda to (presumably) arrest them. I've covered protests here a lot. Never seen anything like it.

Harvard has set an example for other higher-ed institutions - rejecting an unlawful and ham-handed attempt to stifle academic freedom, while taking steps to make sure students can benefit from an environment of intellectual inquiry, rigorous debate and mutual respect. Let’s hope others follow suit.

Harvard President Garber reponded in a public statement that Harvard will not comply with these demands. He relies on the values of traditional independence of universities and on Harvard's motto of Veritas. Harvard at the moment, is not capitulating to Trump and is seemingly ready to fight.

A public letter from the Office of the President of Harvard University, addressed to the Harvard community. President Alan M. Garber discusses the history of federal funding supporting research at Harvard and criticizes a recent set of demands from the federal government, which he claims threaten Harvard’s independence under the guise of combating antisemitism. The letter argues the government’s proposed requirements—including audits of viewpoints, reductions in power for certain students and faculty, and controls over hiring and teaching—are unconstitutional and infringe on academic freedom. Garber affirms that Harvard will not accept the government’s proposed agreement and stresses the university’s commitment to free inquiry and expression.Continuation of President Garber’s letter, emphasizing Harvard’s moral obligation to fight antisemitism while defending academic freedom. He outlines three commitments: nurturing open inquiry, affirming free speech and consistent discipline, and fostering a community that values difference. He references the Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard decision, reaffirming legal compliance with non-discrimination based on race. The letter concludes with a strong defense of academic independence, asserting that progress and truth arise from free inquiry, not from governmental control, and pledges continued work toward Harvard’s mission of education and discovery.

Sound ⬆️ : Rep. Jamie Raskin delivers a masterclass on why the No Rogue Rulings Act is an assault on judicial independence and our Constitution. The House votes *tomorrow*. This bill silences courts, not rogue rulings. Call your members of Congress now—democracy depends on it. @raskin.house.gov

"I don't want a Disney vacation of our history! I don't a whitewashed history, I don't want a homogenized history. Tell me the wretched truth about America, because that speaks to our greatness" -- 20 hours into his speech, Cory Booker is spitting absolute 🔥

Cory Booker as he breaks Strom Thurmond's speaking record: "I'm not here because of his speech. I'm here despite his speech. I'm here because as powerful as he was, the people are more powerful."
