Punny, crafts, chronic illness, math, snow They/Them

The Carney/Poilievre sketches on This Hour Has 22 Minutes are so good. This has potential to be one of the all-time great political comedy dynamics

For decades, people with ME/CFS struggled for recognition while researchers struggled for funding. Then came Covid. My latest for @bloomberg.com on how Long Covid is transforming the science of infection-associated chronic illness. 🎁🔗👇 www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Chronic Fatigue Was Neglected for Decades. Then Came Covid

ME/CFS patients battled for recognition as researchers struggled for funding. The pandemic finally gave science the scale to start finding answers.

This is the disease for which I research and advocate: #MECFS. Even mild presentation is life-changing, and this is what severe looks like. People are surprised so many of us were athletes. They want to believe this can only happen to people who were already unwell. www.bbc.com/sport/athlet...

Beth Dobbin: British Olympic sprinter in bed for 22 hours a day after ME diagnosis

Beth Dobbin ran for Great Britain at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. Five years on, she is largely bedbound after being diagnosed with ME, a devastating illness for which there is no cure.

As an ex-NHS psychiatrist who learnt ME was a psychiatric condition before the discredited PACE trial pushed that hypothesis & as someone who’s experienced long Covid I’m behind this campaign. ➕📣 regular reminder Prof Simon Wessley of PACE fame is now appointed to gaslight trans people the same way⬇️

This is what allyship looks like: 360 sportspeople - including Olympians Dina Asher-Smith and Tom Daley - have signed a letter to the prime minister calling on him to meet former sprinter Beth Dobbin and commit to increased funding towards ME research. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/athlet...

Everyone follow and give Beth Dobbin some love immediately! She’s putting way more energy than she can afford into getting funding for the horrific disease #ME for the sake of all of us. *A disease that has multiplied exponentially since the beginning of the pandemic #LongCovid

Hi everyone, I’m new to Bluesky but we’ve been working on something 🙏🏼 I’ve written a second letter to Andy Burnham, alongside 360 sports people, to urge him to meet with me and fund research into my much neglected health issue which impacts millions of others.

THIS!! My dad was learning new surgical techniques for SPANISH FLU-INDUCED PARKINSONS IN THE LATE 1950s! COVID is a neurotropical vascular disease that has disabled MILLIONS and will be causing long term health damage for decades to come.

For me the worst health messaging has been that Covid is mild for most people, and the sole focus on the ACUTE Infection and NOT what can come after in ANYONE. Also the risk to clinically vulnerable who can die.

When I was young I heard some enterprising and engaging captain say that the future could be a place wherein “we work to better ourselves and the rest of humanity,” and though I knew that I might not see that day I always thought it was up to each of us to make it so.

This summer, I travelled to northeast BC to report on news deserts. What I found was a small but dedicated network of local journalists who continue to tell the stories that matter to their communities — despite the challenges. First in my 5-part series for @thetyee.ca. thetyee.ca/News/2026/10...

Every Paper in One BC Region Closed. Reporters Refused to Give Up | The Tyee

First in a Tyee series on scrappy journalists making local news deserts bloom.

Apparently in some parts of Europe they refer to the XFG Covid variant which is currently surging as “American Covid,” but meanwhile here in some parts of America we refer to all of the Covid variants which are currently spreading as “why is everyone sick?”
