New research involving 378 hospitalised COVID-19 patients found that elevated levels of IL-6, an inflammatory signalling molecule, and neutrophils together in a blood test identified patients with a 14-fold higher risk of death. The test could improve risk prediction, but further research is needed.

I guess I have to repeat this again: if you agree that Dems have to say anti-trans things to win, then you're not welcome here. You're not a resistor. You're not pragmatic. You're just a bigot and a coward that should never be trusted.

A Swedish study of over 1.2 million adults found that non-hospitalised people with diagnosed long COVID had a 14% higher risk of developing high blood pressure than those without long COVID. Researchers highlight the importance of cardiovascular follow-up and regular blood pressure monitoring.

I warned 3 years ago that mink farms are a likely route to a new and horrific human pandemic, and once more I'm fervently praying it doesn't map out that way. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Be warned: the next deadly pandemic is not inevitable, but all the elements are in place | George Monbiot

Bird flu is a mass killer, and mink farms are perfect for infection and transmission. They are a grave threat and must be banned, says Guardian columnist George Monbiot

Wild new story from @natlash.bsky.social Bird flu has been raging uncontrolled on a mink farm for two months. Flu experts fear it could spark a devastating human pandemic. But officials haven’t acted, instead prioritizing the financial interests of the fur trade. www.propublica.org/article/bird...

You hear a rustling sound from your kitchen, and look at your cat sleeping next to you. Oh no, not a rat or mouse, you desperately hope. You tentatively walk into the kitchen and switch on the light. The rustling stops. Caught in the act, an extremely nude Danny DeVito is eating your leftovers
