Ignoring the fact this is obvious bullshit (as opposed to a lie), if implemented this would instantly grow the 2027 federal deficit from a projected $2.1 trillion (already a great job, MAGA!) to $3.5 trillion. Which, if you were trying to destroy the dollar, would be a great idea. (Oh, wait....)

I blame Elite Rot (generally) for a lot of Trump II, or at least in large part for how damaging it has been. University admins, business leaders, nominal left liberal aligned institutions reacted so poorly that I think an elite punishment project is necessary for left of center political projects.

I think this is right. The job is to manage the expectations and disappointments of your voters while punishing defection in elites to the utmost while we can. I think that's the only risk mitigation strategy that grapples with the polarized/thermostatic environment in a way that's useful.

the point here is not rendering justice, it is setting future expectations. we can't control thermostatic electoral behavior. we can teach a very painful lesson that Democrats will punish corruption when they take power
