I read a lot, and I have a lot of tropical plants.

Yay it rained heavily and got a lot of the smoke particles out of the air! Boo poor Thelma was sleeping under the giant lilac shrub when it rained.

A very very soggy small black cat is seen standing on a brick walkway. The fur all along her top is totally slicked down by water. While she is facing the camera, her head is lowered so we cannot see her eyes. Beside her are some sunbeckia flowers and greenery, also somewhat bedraggled due to the heavy rain we just received.

It is quite understandable, my friend, if at this point you are feeling burnt out from trying to stay safe in the face of all these public health crises, but please, my friend, do keep taking care for these crises have not yet finished burning through us.

Alongside a video of a man in a headstand pose, the WHO recommended doing yoga to stay grounded, and while I know it seems that the world has turned upside down, I regret to inform you, that turning yourself upside down does not turn the world right side up.

A friend called to see if I had plans in case I lose power, so I told her I lost any power I had a long time ago and ever since I’ve been running on anger, fear, and hope, to which she responded she meant losing power in the storm, so I said: I also have a flashlight.

When you see the story about how the world now has its first trillionaire, and when you see the story about how laboratories in Congo have run out of supplies to test for Ebola, it is important to understand that in many ways these are the same story.

Making new friends at the greenhouse again. This lovely black swallowtail was sitting on our wisteria but was willing to hang out in my thumb for several minutes. 🥰

Close up side view of a black swallowtail butterfly sitting on a thumb. The top of the butterfly wing is black; the lower part is black inside with orange spots then yellow spots at the edges. The abdomen and part of the lower wing are iridescent blue. Also the nail polish on the thumb is iridescent blue.

Cat break! Last fall a scrawny young tabby showed up at the greenhouse and informed us it was her home now. Now she lives her best life eating all the food and getting all the pets.

A fluffy and somewhat chunky long hair brown tabby cat with white socks on all four paws plus a white belly sprawls luxuriously on her side on an industrial floormat. If you look closely at her feet you can see the fluff between the toe beans. We don't have a good angle to see her eyes but I promise they are a piercing green. The mat needs swept or vacuumed but the laminate flooring is actually mostly clean.A fluffy and kinda chunky long hair brown tabby is sitting on a dark countertop in a greenhouse. She is side-on to the camera but has her head facing it, which lets us see the white bib on her neck and most of her four white socks. She has magnificent long white whiskers and some long ear hairs but no ear tufts. The white bib extends up her neck and chin clear to just under her nose. Her eyes are brilliant green with the pupils contracted. If you zoom in you can see a squiggly line of amber ringing the outer edge of the pupils. Her expression is somewhat disdainful.

Behind her stretch rows of tropical plants on tables and hanging in baskets, standing out brightly in shades of green against the translucent white of the greenhouse plastic roof. The metal supports and frame for the ventilation are visible at the top. A black mesh shade cloth is stretched above the plants.

"Quiet Piggy" should be every woman's response now to toxic men. Democrat women's response on everything he says. Make it the new okay boomer and stop being weird, creepy campaign. Make them insane with it.

In honor of @scalzi.com's visit to our warehouse today, our fabulous production editor did a little photo shoot with two of her pet mice, Ivy and Nettle. We feel it's only right to give away a signed copy of WHEN THE MOON HITS YOUR EYE. Follow and reshares to enter! Int'l, ends 9-14 at noon ET!

Greenhouse cat Thelma got into something while I was getting her a bowl of food from the office. She was very good about letting me scritch her head to clean it off though

A petite black cat looks at the camera. The top of her head is gray from dust or dirt. Her eyes are huge and dilated because she's mostly blind. She's standing on cobblestone pavers with dappled sunlight coming from behind her.
