It's not very compelling if you are a moderately bright person who understands that someone has to make and pay for the candy still. But if you are totally intellectually incurious about actual candy manufacture and providence, it sounds like quite the deal

Fascism emerged as a syncretic movement that consciously embraced a politics of modernity and mass mobilization. It’s not exactly scandalous to point out why it has had lasting appeal.

There are very few White folks that Black people will go to the mat for. Dolly was one of them and she never disappointed.

Dolly Parton rose from poverty to stardom. She gave $500 to every student in her hometown who finished high school; she built hospitals & bald eagle preserves; her Imagination Library has gifted 300 million books to children. Roger Ebert met her and came away thinking she was a literal angel. RIP.

Dolly Parton spent 80 years proving you could have big hair, a bigger heart, a brilliant mind and absolutely no patience for anyone who underestimated you. She gave us unforgettable songs, free books for millions of children, and enough wit, rhinestones and kindness to light up Tennessee.

I want to add that Dolly wrote this song less than a decade after eugenicist Harry M. Caudill's Night Comes to the Cumberlands was published, pathologizing Appalachia during the country's "War on poverty." That "Despite your contempt, the things I love are worth loving" part runs DEEP.

A person from the hills and sticks of Tennessee who could’ve easily been a conservative nightmare but instead chose to be a light in the world. The world is so much worse without Dolly Parton in it.

I think loaf pan bread baking is going to become my preferred method, I think it’s just easier for me to shape it with enough tension for a rectangular pan vs a round proofing basket. And 7 minute scoring vs cold scoring, the loaf I’m baking now already looks so much better, I just took the lid off
