Are you at ICML next week? Feel like your decision-making for which sessions to attend might not be risk minimizing? Don't incur (swap) regret and come to my, @aaroth.bsky.social, and @ncollina.bsky.social's tutorial Monday on multicalibration, decision-making, and collaborative learning!
Most Multilingual benchmarks measure what models know, not what they can reliably do. Our #ACL2026 paper introduces functional benchmarks in six languages from English to Yoruba to test whether models can actually execute tasks across languages, not just answer fixed questions about them. 🧵1/n
Sam D'Alonzo is presenting "Helpful, Harmless, Honest? Reconsidering RLHF as Survey Design and Content Moderation," our paper that explores these theories in depth, on Sunday @ 10:45-12:15 in Joyce. Collaborative work also with Frauke Kreuter.
This ended up being such an excellent event! Big congrats to all the organizers and so grateful that I could attend + participate!

Some personal news: I've signed a contract for a book! It's called REGIME CHANGE and it's published with Princeton University Press. More details as they become available.

For me, this comes with a responsibility to raise awareness about the challenges of being trans in Singapore. So I wrote a short post about my own journey transitioning since 13 years ago, which you can find here: ztangent.github.io/blog/2026/td...
Thanks for the signal boost, @jlkoepke.bsky.social! We wrote this paper to respond to real confusion we saw in various bills and in conversations with legislators. So while parts may be obvious to academics steeped in this work, hopefully it can give those working in AI policy some useful clarity.
more folks working on 'ai policy' — specifically policies seeking to prevent discrimination by ai systems in part through the use of impact assessments and audits — should read this paper by jennifer wang, @aselbst.bsky.social, @s010n.bsky.social, and @geomblog.bsky.social. arxiv.org/pdf/2506.17347

In the beginning of November, Kate and I met to think more about how to continue the work from our tech policy press blogpost on AI sovereignty. She mentioned she’d been reading Laleh Khalili's works on oil in the Middle East and that she couldn’t get AI out of her head.
'Sovereignty' Myth-Making in the AI Race

Very glad to be a part of a new paper detailing how developers and developer platforms can prevent AIG-NCII, a form of image based sexual abuse that disproportionately harms women and girls. Thanks to all the collaborators and Max Kamachee & @scasper.bsky.social for leading this important project!
Did you know that one base model is responsible for 94% of model-tagged NSFW AI videos on CivitAI? This new paper studies how a small number of models power the non-consensual AI video deepfake ecosystem and why their developers could have predicted and mitigated this.
Thanks to collaborators! This was a really interesting paper for me to work on, and it took a special group of interdisciplinary people to get it done. Max Kamachee @r-jy.bsky.social @michelleding.bsky.social @ankareuel.bsky.social @stellaathena.bsky.social @dhadfieldmenell.bsky.social
