All speeches delivered at this convention fall purely within the bounds of liberal democratic practices. Any resemblance to Catholic or Protestant preaching and pamphlet literature during the French Wars of Religion is purely coincidental.

*whispers* you know we can do this cultural debate about art thing all the time, right? Websites and news organizations used to have culture critics on staff whose entire job was writing about books, movies, and TV. People read them and then discussed them. We have the technology to do this again.

This campaign has been the apex of White Dude Dilettante-ism. Platner isn’t a lifelong policy wonk or dedicated organizer. He’s had multiple careers, most recently he’s decided to give being a US Senator a try and the state of Maine sold the entire rest of the country out to give him a shot at it.

This is why I roll my eyes at people questioning the timing of Monday's story with Jenny Racicot. IT WAS ALREADY OUT THERE. And the GOP are still sitting on a ton of other stuff they intended to drop as soon as the July 13th deadline to replace him passes.
The theory that “electable” means “work to appease right-wing bigots under the assumption that majorities agree with them, at least partially, and they prioritize it when voting” has been tried. It has failed. Try something else.

It remains baffling to me that we have a clear constitutional requirement that the president can't enrich himself on the job, something we had no problem enforcing strictly for hundreds of years, and then this sweaty conman came by and the nation just sorta shrugged it off.
