I just saw an ad from Wayfair that had a bunch of magical around-the-house effects happening. I immediately thought they had hopped on the Harry Potter train, but it was actually a cross promotion with "Practical Magic 2"? Really bad time for any magic-themed promotion work, I guess.

This is seismic news for fisheries scientists. Northern cod is *the* iconic symbol of total fisheries collapse due to overfishing (and other factors) *and* the iconic symbol of a complete failure to recover for decades afterwards. This is like announcing the complete recovery of bison on land.

It takes you 20 paragraphs to get to the part of the article where they admit that Mamdani isn't paying the influencers and the reason they are posting videos of the stuff Mamdani is doing is because people are interested in watching it.

The mayor’s office says that it does not pay the influencers. Still, their proximity and access to a figure as popular as Mr. Mamdani can help increase their own social media following and, by extension, potentially put them in a position to attract paid content sponsorships from commercial brands. Some influencers said that when they feature Mr. Mamdani, the videos get more likes and viewers watch longer.

As someone who learned to code as a kid and was doing so professionally by the time the 2008 economy popped, I never understood why 'learn to code' was just the default answer for everyone. Like every job, there are certain skills that are important, so it's really not for everyone.
