Read this. The prose is a brain tickling delight, the setting gently magical, the story wonderous, the characters so very human, and the ending heartbreaking in that way that warms you. First book of Toms (@dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social) that I've read, but it won't be the last.

My parents made this bird sculpture from various bits of wood and old metal they found in their shed and made a perch for it on the sawn-off trunk of a dead tree, and it makes for some great folk horror winter sunset photos.

I missed the first visit by Junior, but he came back at 10am! He must have been spending the night somewhere cooler than our yard cuz he’s in “Warm me up, Sun!” mode 😄 So much floof. Fortunately he got snacks from Connie! #birds roadrunner

This winter we put in a pond for wildlife and as we go through our fifth heatwave since May, I’m glad we did. I have needed to top it up from our water butt so some rain would be good now. Water for hedgehogs, cats, birds and insects. 🦔

Very close to the end of the eclipse last night here in Glastonbury the clouds rolled in and the sun rays gave an amazing appearance as if to say 'I am back'

So sorry, Junior!! 1 I was walking to the back corner of the yard to check on an oriole feeder when I scared Junior off a cushy patio chair 2 Junior hopped down and about ten feet to a dirt patch and into this pose. 3 eyeliner shot I figured it was a bug bakeout stance, But maybe playing dead?! 🪶

It looks like the bird is playing dead. Often birds are lying that way to overheat parasites or bugs on their feathers causing them to flee. #ourworldiswonderful; since it's been another heatwave day, I thought I'd cool you off with a pic of the River Wye when it was full. The current drought is reducing its flow significantly, of course. Rain would be a welcome relief. Meantime, enjoy tonight's solar eclipse, but do it in safety!

The near river bank forms a slope at the bottom right. Beyond it and flowing through to the bottom left is the river in full flow. Across the water, mature trees line the bank, drinking from the passing river.
