Ballard of the Wind Fish

"Russia" doesn't exist. It's a prison of nations, an imperial colony spanning dozens of would-be states. A bunch of real, existing nations have already escaped this prison and started great lives in freedom. It has been truly great for the world, not "bad".

Looked at another way, the Baltic is a Mediterranean of the north - with Sweden as North Africa, Finland as Iberia, Estonia as Italy, Latvia as the Balkans, Lithuania as Greece and Poland as Turkey. Gotland is Crete…

Not consciously, although I devoured a lot of Zelazny as a kid. I remember Lord of Light best, and don't remember Isle of the Dead at all. --But I know there are no new ideas, and wouldn't be surprised to find that some Zelaznyan cryptomnesia went into Lockstep. Glad you liked it either way.

It's a huge influence but only in a strange, backwards kind of way. I want players to be generating their own little "Dictionaries" after the game, so the book is sorta reverse-engineered. The expansion does a lot more work at the level of lineage and institution so the influence is more pronounced.

For a while I've been noodling on a taxonomy of decision types. I'm not convinced it's fully baked, but I already have been using it successfully in my design process, so I thought I might share it here in its current form. At the moment there's 5 types.
