Eugenia has already said here everything I was going to say about this. One thing I will add is that the lasting thing I gained following this project was a deep hatred for AI slop and LLMs as anyone who has heard me speak on ths subject since knows. I saw how the sausage was made and rejected it.

In 2022, before Chatgpt and everything that came next, I participated in this study. It was framed as a research on a new tool that I could try and offer my opinion on. I didn't know that it was trained on copyrighted material.

Amnesty International put out a major report documenting the influence of UK based anti trans gender critical organizations and their funding. Within hours, GC groups threatened defamation lawsuits and Amnesty was forced to pull it down. Proving the point they're anti rights. Anyways, here it is.

Once we’d picked our hearts off the floor, we started digging: Bella had minimal online presence, first appearing in May 2025. Since then, she’d accumulated a remarkable publication record (we counted 15 published stories in 12 months), across name publishers and small or community-minded outlets, including several paying SFWA rates (like us).

When I'm reading a book that is challenging, I make a bookmark out of blank paper and keep a running list of new words and their definitions that I encounter. Fun is the right word for it!

I like to keep a lil notebook. And in this notebook I jot down unfamiliar words when I encounter them in the wild. And I build out lil spelling lists like the ones I had in elementary school. And I drill those words like I did back then. It's a lot of fun. Highly recommend.

I’m only gonna put you in a jar and let tourists go eww at you for the next two hundred years god look at me for two hundred years I’d do anything look mummy, one of them’s licking the glass— honey it's dead velvety sweet sardined hope their ghosts are friends teeming in a molish afterlife dark and circular everything worm- flavoured tasty buggy snackerels what if you smashed the mole jar? vinegared moles spilling out flaccid & swimming everyone screaming someone saying Freddy you gotta get us a new jar of moles— —goddammit boss I never asked for any of this A jar of wet preserved moles, the jar is very full and all the little hands, feet and snoots mark it as both upsetting and fascinating

Difficult post, but past time to rip the band aid off. FIYAH is going on hiatus indefinitely, with issue #40 currently set to be our last for the time being. The mag cannot continue running at a loss, and needs time to reassess operations from top to bottom if a viable path forward is to be created.
