I’ve always been amazed by assertions that depictions in fiction = creator approval. How do you square that belief with the fact most stories contain conflict? Characters that aggressively, possibly violently disagree? It genuinely makes no sense at all.

"draw fanart to build an audience" bold of you to assume there are enough people in my circles who care about the fanart I actually want to make, my Jessica Jones stuff gets far less attention than [insert popular thing here] draw what you want to draw especially if it's niche and weird.
genuinely. many take for granted how much media is about characters that are thin, pale, cis, able-bodied, etc. and when you point out how yuri fandom spaces perpetuate the same racism and misogyny as the het/yaoi spaces they criticise, it goes in the left ear and out the right
