Hell! Hell! Ring the bell!
Count the souls and weigh them well.
Take a number, state your sins,
This is where the fun begins.

Sloth? Well, that's not quite enough.
Life sometimes can be quite tough.
Did your rest bring others pain?
No? Then off you go again.

Lust? Let's check your life above.
Was your passion born from love?
Did you treat a soul as meat?
No? Then join the angels' fleet.

Ah, at last, you've brought your wrath.
Let us trace your chosen path.
Against injustice, did you rage?
Your name is on Saint Peter's page.

Pride! They always get this wrong.
To love your work can make you strong.
You lifted others, as you rose,
So rise again, where heaven glows.

What have we here, let's see your plate.
A glutton? We'll investigate.
Did you take more than you were due?
Please have a seat, and we'll review.

Envy? Hmm, what's in your heart?
A little longing plays its part.
Did their success help you to climb?
For you, the silver bells will chime.

Well look at you, with all that cash,
Your gold empire turned to ash.

This is how current WIP starts, with a wizard dashing under fish bowls as he runs for his life. #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

To find his way home, he had to follow the fish.

They swam in huge bowls hanging from the central beams of walkways that covered the city streets. Their wide, luminous tails guiding the way; twisting and turning. A mix of red, white, green, and purple flashes of light.

And, dashing under them, the Great Wizard Levytus turned left towards home at the spotted green fish. The group was getting closer. Their presence indicated by the air getting dryer as they pulled all of the moisture from the atmosphere. Every part of skin that was exposed, mainly his precious face, felt as if it was being brushed by sandpaper. His lungs stung like he was breathing in coarse grit.

“How did you end up as an acolyte of the Gray Lady?” Wren was curious and more than a little angry at the thought of someone dumping a frightened boy at the church.
“I was four when my mum brought me here. Soon as she realized I was touched by the Lady.” Elton said it matter-of-factly, not like someone hurt by being abandoned at a young age.
“Touched?”
“Oh, for certain. I have the Gray Lady’s blessing. I can see dead people.” Elton’s smile lit up his entire face.
“Yeah?” Wren gave a little snort, teasing the lad. “I can see dead people too, usually after I stick my knife in them a couple of times.”
“You know what I mean. I see their spirits, not the corporeal bits.” The acolyte was unfazed by Wren’s casual mention of murder. She didn’t know whether to be alarmed or impressed.
“So you can see Reggie, then?”
“Yep, plain as the nose on my face.” Elton snickered, amused by his own joke. Wren rolled her eyes, not caring that he couldn’t see it. “Sometimes, when someone infirm is getting close to meeting the Lady, I can see them when I couldn’t before. You know the Veil?”
“Couldn't forget it if I tried.” A shudder crept down her spine at the mention of that gray place.
“Well, it’s like… the in-between place, the space between the world of the living and the various afterlives people believe in.” Elton held his hands up with his palms an inch apart. “I can’t see the physical things in this world, but I can see the shadow they cast in the Veil, along with the spirits roaming there before they cross all the way over. It lets me get around easier than I would otherwise, except that sometimes the shadows aren’t exactly the same, and I end up tripping over a pothole or walking into a wall I didn’t know was there.”

July 20th – unfazed Mikiva runs into an old friend. Their last meeting didn’t end so well for him. #DawnsBlood #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts

“Well, well,” the man sneered. “This is my lucky day after all.”
Mikiva recognized that voice. “M’arec. Figures. You in charge of all this?”
“Once I heard you were involved, how could I resist?” He tore off his mask, revealing a long, ugly scar running from his left cheek up through his clouded, milk-white eye. It disappeared into his hairline on the right side. “As they say, Mikiva, an eye for an eye.”
“You lost that eye fair and square, M’arec,” Mikiva retorted. “You don’t get to seek revenge because of a contest you instigated.”
“You left before I could challenge you again. You left me disgraced and blinded with no way to regain my honor! You owe me!”
“You consider an arrow in the back a rematch, do you? That is cowardly, even for you.”
“A win is a win.” M’arec shrugged, unfazed. “Besides, business comes first. I am supposed to kill you, and I will do that in the most efficient way I can. But I won’t say I am not a little pleased that it turned out this way, instead.”

Finally opening his eyes, Grio sauntered out of the bath and rubbed himself dry. He couldn't help but cast a look at his body in the mirror, just to make sure it was how it should be. Tepid water dripped from his shoulder blades and cascaded down the slope of his back. He was Grio and he would remain as such.

Once dry, he massaged the oils into his body and wished for company, only so that his hands didn't have to be so slippery. As he rubbed them on the towel, the door opened abruptly and Anfri strode in unannounced. For once, the heir to Dragaul looked surprised. Mainly as Grio stood there naked, shiny and unphased. Grio smiled as he slowly wrapped a towel around his waist and looked directly at Anfri. His face was a mask that Grio had seen many times before. One of unexpected desire and curiosity. If the man wasn't so staid then Grio would have been tempted to seduce him but the consequences would likely be unpleasurable.

Rushak wrenched himself away. "There you

discounting everything I say? Will you stop dragging me into your constant struggle against my reality?" He grabbed Drisal's upper arms in both hands and
shook him. "You were not there! You did not hear the very stones of the tower screaming!" Letting go, he made as if to shove him, but only succeeded in
shoving himself backward, nearly losing his balance. Unfazed, Drisal caught him.

"No. And neither did you. You were
overwrought then, and you've been overwrought since. It's been justified every step of the journey, but no less damaging for that! You let your pain inflate things, cinshamm. You inflate this scroll and yourself
to mean—“

"Stop it, Drisal!" he cried, pummeling him,
trying to wrestle away, though his brother was overwhelmingly stronger. “No i do not. I have never read anything truer.”

“Yeah, that sounds fair. I’ll check back with Clara tomorrow to see if she got any sort of study plan for my ‘self defence’ class with your students. I hope she manages to make something believable, for both our sakes,” I say pointedly, but Irena seems completely unphased.
“I’m positive your friend will deliver. Also, be aware that Mr Val’s class usually starts at around 10 am. Goodnight, Milly, I hope the furnishings serve you well this night!” Irena says and starts to turn around to tell the girls to go to bed as well, I assume.
“You too, sleep well!” I say and close the door.
You too? In her own house? Ugh, stupid. And starting class at ten in the morning? This ‘school’ definitely is very different from any other I’ve ever experienced. I throw myself onto the very comfortable bed with copper coloured sheets, a prevailing theme everywhere in this massive building now that I come to think on it. I also think very very deeply about what I’ve gotten myself into with this new job, and I drift off into sleep while doing so.

Unfazed by it, she opened her Astral Sight just enough to perceive the shimmering shadows behind the walls. Dozens of them, far more than Datusha had sensed outside. Each a stone to build the bridge to her purification, to her freedom.

“Surrender, beasts of chaos, for you have nowhere to run now.” Her voice cleaved the silent hamlet like a blade through decomposed flesh, trembling the spectral forms of her enemies.

Baz glanced at the rune again. It glared at him with its burning eyes and raised arms, as if welcoming him to a circle of hell. Every stroke of the symbol dripped with condescension. It didn’t need to defend itself, because it couldn’t imagine ever being challenged.

Just like Maestro.

Behind him, Sophie lay still on the floor. Somewhere far above, Scruffy was in the arms of something monstrous. And across the earpiece, his friends had fallen quiet.

There were no riddles left to solve. No sleight of hand, no final twist, no improbable escape wrapped in smoke and mirrors. No more tricks.

Just one miserable rune standing in their way.

Baz felt the last of his fear ebb, as the tide of something sharper washed over him. He glared up into those fiery black eyes with growing defiance. If it wanted to stare at him, then it could damn well be stared at too. Sophie had done the same, hadn’t she? In fact, that’s what each and every member of the crew did.

They felt fear in their hearts. They stared death in the eyes.

And they walked forward anyway.

This is the beginning of the end in First to Fall as everything goes up in smoke. #WritingCommunity #WriteSky #HQPress

The ball tumbled over the cobbles and rolled towards one of the many storage buildings that lined the river edge, only the desperate or not superstitious lived here. It was too hot and powerful for any puddles to quench it and within seconds the wooden structure was starting to smoulder. One of the waden screeched and turned its head towards him. Strope staggered backwards to get away from it but stopped when he saw the figure approaching.

Their body was silhouetted against the red flames and the grey-black smoke. A straight-backed figure illuminated in white. The shards of light were dagger-like in their sharpness but pulsating with the heartbeat of their creator. Strope couldn’t help but be hypnotised by this terrifying creature who radiated power. He knew who it was before he even saw his face. Grio’s blue eyes twinkled in recognition when he saw Strope and he winked.

“Look at you. A grown man doing child’s magic.” Grio stepped a few paces forward and Strope shielded his eyes from the glare.
