People should genuinely be more willing to say that the German Republic of the interwar years was a great thing and that it is a shame it fell, imo, instead of handwringing about how it probably was inevitable.
Kane@kanexan.bsky.social · 7mo agoIn turn, the fall of Weimar Germany is a failure state of democracy, but it was not 'by democratic means' that it failed - the streets were claimed by thugs, and the administration that put Hitler into power - because the Nazis never won an election before banning their opponents - was Monarchist.

i actually do love that "class traitor" spd is a completely viable strategy. you can just cut taxes to the rich, raise tariffs, and offer only the most tepid response to the great depression and excel electorally* * (ignore the rising tide of fascism and the 20% unemployment)
Finished my first play-through of this fantastic game by @red-autumn.itch.io on Easy, and got my rear ignominiously handed to me with a Prussian civil war. So well done, gripping and educational. Thanks for making this

It's interesting how the centrist faction of US politics resembles the DVP (claims to be a people's party but actually represents big business interests, collapses the coalition due to tax/welfare policy, aggressively nationalistic rhetoric, ...). Claims to be Stresemann but are actually Dingeldey

The KPD sucked but I don't think this is an accurate allocation of blame for the fall of the Weimar Republic. KPD + SPD never got nearly 50% of the vote (closer to 40%). Imo much more of the blame goes to the Protestant conservative-liberal bourgeois bloc (DVP mostly but also DStP, WP, etc)
rev. howard arson@theophite.bsky.social · 12mo agoin the actual case of hitler, the communists made this decision, incorrectly believing the SPD to be hitler, and it was the single largest cause of death among communists (both soviet and german) in the 20th century
