With emotive warnings on social media about aggressive drunk wasps, there are ways we can live with wasps, as Vanna Bartlett explains. Humans must learn to live with wasps - an insect in serious decline & very crucial to a healthy ecosystem. Here's how 👇

Uninvited but indispensable: how to live with wasps

Wasps, once a common summer sight, are now in decline yet they remain vital pollinators and we must learn to live alongside them

“Dutch people cycle an average of 2.6km each per day. If this pattern was replicated worldwide, annual carbon emissions would drop by 686 million tonnes. This mammoth figure exceeds the entire carbon footprint of most countries, including the UK, Canada, Saudi Arabia and Australia.” @euronews.com

Cycling like the Dutch would slash the world’s carbon footprint

If everybody cycled like the Dutch, we could offset the UK or Australia’s entire carbon footprint.

Britons taking “Plan 2” student loan need to earn £63,600 a year to reduce debt. Plan 2 graduates with an average loan of £52,100, and earning £39,039 would see loan balance actually increase by £1,692 a year. England student debt £294.6bn, UK £324bn Median UK employee wage is £31,500. Madness.

I have written to the Cabinet Secretary to seek assurances that the Prime Minister’s Chief of Staff, who was lobbying for the privatised water industry until recently, has had no involvement in talks about the future of Thames Water.

25th August 2026
Dear Antonia,
It is reported in the media today that the Prime Minister has ‘shelved’ plans to take Thames Water into administration.
As is well known, the Chief of Staff in Downing Street James Purnell was until his appointment, the Chief Executive of Flint Global, whose clients it is widely reported include members of the privatised water industry, and Thames Water’s bondholders.
The Times reports that the Prime Minister has been ‘advised by officials’ not to go ahead with special administration. In addition to James Purnell, can you confirm that no other officials involved in this process have links to the privatised water industry, and have accepted no hospitality from anyone associated with or acting on behalf of members of the water industry, including Flint Global, post the departure of James Purnell.
It is especially concerning that the Times reports that the Prime Minister has listened to advice that even the half measure of temporary special administration would be costly and run into legal issues. Of course, this is what advisers and lobbyists for the privatised water industry will be saying and it is the ‘advice’ James Purnell would have been making weeks ago, It is also highly unlikely to be true, given the repeated catastrophic failures of Thames Water, including polluted rivers, sky high bills and water shortages, Thames Water could be taken into public ownership right now and Thames Water would not have a legal leg to stand on.
The public and I expect a proper explanation for this decision, including an update to parliament at the first possible time, and assurances that James Purnell has had nothing at all to

This definitely should make investors think about the dangers of excess investment and the risks associated with pursuing the most optimistic projections. Worth remembering that the fiber optic investment boom was followed by a wave of high profile corporate bankruptcies.

Reform is a clownshow of racist, misogynistic, islamophobic, fascistic, corrupt, grifting, incompetent, hateful halfwits. Beyond ridiculous that they think they can lecture us all on values and how to conduct our personal lives. Sit down. Have a big think. And get your own houses in order.

As I board the ferry from Tallinn to Helsinki, I’m reminded yet again of three things about the EU: 1) You don’t sacrifice any of your national identity or culture by being part of the EU. Estonia remains Estonia. Finland remains Finland 2) Schengen is great. 3) Brexit was and is shit.

I real enjoy every one of these mini-tutorials on economics and finance. Every one is a master class in effective communication. Well worth the few minutes it takes to read and absorb each module. I wish my own university lecturers had been even half as good at communicating as this.

Is £3 trillion of national debt a problem, or a sign of success and the finance sector's confidence in the government? I wrote this infographic. AI created the image.

An infographic on the UK's national debt.

Symptoms of the climate crisis have hit us all summer, yet SNP and Labour politicians want to drill for more oil and gas! It's time to take action for people and planet. No new fossil fuels.

This is very worrying. The idea that carbon capture can compensate for #Rosebank emissions suits the oil industry and must sound appealing to Gov. But it’s total BS for a number of reasons. Please read and share Andrew Boswell’s explanation below. 🙏o

🧵1/ Very grateful to @graceblakeley.substack.com for this guest blog on how promoters of carbon capture and storage (CCS) are trying to give Andy #Burnham a deceptively neat-looking get-out-of-jail-free card to drill Rosebank and Jackdaw. This thread explains its flawed carbon accounting

A key political test for new UK PM Andy Burnham is whether to approve Rosebank & Jackdaw oil & gas fields New academic research shows economic damage caused from CO2 produced would be between £119bn and £336bn, compared with estimated £28.7bn economic benefits www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Took a bus into the centre of Plymouth today. Previous diesel had been replaced by a new electric model. What an improvement - quiet, no vibration and really smooth ride. Can’t wait for my regular bus into Exeter to go electric.
