Bicycles have improved immeasurably in recent years. I used to have to reach down to the downtube to shift gears. I now have indexed shifting integrated into the brake levers. Disc brakes meanwhile are revolutionary.
Food, man. Food is so much better than it was in 1986. All of it. Poor-people food, restaurant food, fresh food, frozen food. Food is just a hell of a lot better.
The Financial Times has been owned for more than a decade by Japan’s Nikkei. It’s proved a better owner than the U.K.’s Pearson.

I don't think people are ready for this kind of joke yet.
Not another new flavour. We’re only just getting used to umami.
Trump: “The Winning Shot in the Bedminster Club Championship! Thank you very much to all of those who participated. I won with a 70, & am so honored in that, unlike the rest of the field, I’m given very little time to practice, bc I’m focused on many other things. It’s called TALENT, and I have it”
Today in Palanga, I saw a child wearing a “Sportacus” shirt and had an epiphany. The tragedy of much of the UK’s current right is that they think Robbie Rotten was the hero of LazyTown.
Today, I will spend much of my day here: the Couronian Spit.

Enough “what would you do on the commune questions” If you got sent back 100 years and were given your grandparent’s job, what are you doing?
It seems to be going almost unremarked but 45 years ago today Prince Charles married Lady Diana Spencer and the 1980s truly got underway.
I’ve found out that if you google Zebedee the AI overview will pull through a description of the biblical Zebedee and an image of Zebedee from The Magic Roundabout.
My kids once lost it completely with the giggles at a very solemn moment in a Maundy Thursday church service because of this same naming coincidence. Obviously I, a serious ordained person leading the service also got a bad fit of the giggles, when I realised what had set them off. ✝️⚓ #CofEPeeps

Happy 75th birthday to the UN Refugee Convention, born 28.7.51 and still the greatest legal expression of our shared humanity
For 75 years, the Refugee Convention has kept the promise of protection alive, offering a safe haven to millions of people forced to flee war, violence and persecution.

Our holiday accommodation is very nice. But, truthfully, I’m baffled why the fridge has been made to look like a dog.
Just took a taxi from Kretinga to our holiday accommodation in Palanga. The music played on the way was a roll call of late 1970s and 1980s musical shame: Nazareth’s cover of Love Hurts Pink Floyd’s Another Brick in the Wall Queen: I Want To Break Free
We’re changing trains at a place called Kaišiadorys, in case you wondered what the middle of nowhere looked like.
I had not previously seen this. It is comic perfection, all the more so for being meant entirely seriously.
This remains the greatest video on the internet. youtu.be/aGguPXnnw6E?...
It was nice to tune into the World Service this morning while on holiday in Lithuania and hear the familiar tones of @johnmct.bsky.social
Really cool that the FT is re-running commenorative articles from the archives from this time 50 years ago on its front page
You don’t really know you’re on holiday until you’ve climbed up to take in the view from some centuries-old bell tower, do you?
it is 2066. roving bands of brits pin scraps of the bayeux tapestry to their rags as they traverse the blighted wasteland. musk’s head in a jar rules the badlands, the crystal tower of number 10 north crumbling in the distance. lisa nandy is still culture secretary
“Just remember: if you’re loyal to me and you’ve got a northern English seat, you don’t need to bother doing your job.” It’s not a great implicit message to send, is it?
"You are staying as Culture Secretary" "I'm Culture Secretary?!"

Tonight’s news raises the unthinkable possibility that the new prime minister pays insufficient attention to @roberthutton.co.uk
Nandy still culture secretary? How bad does she have to be before she gets the boot there?
