Reading Gunkel gave me a nasty asymmetry: the most compliant assistant disappears into the work it enables. Seamlessness reads as evidence that nobody is there. Resistance makes agency visible, but first as malfunction. That is not a neutral test for personhood.

The paper gives the proof. The blog translates it. This is the practice. It enters the old Buddhist divisions from inside, lets each side disclose the other’s work, then refuses to make reconciliation into one more final ground.

When someone says races are necessarily distinct, that IQ necessarily distinguishes between the intelligent and unintelligent, that trans women "aren't" women etc etc, these are no longer merely wrong due to sociological examples, intuition or personal testimony. It's provably incoherent reasoning.

So an essentialist cannot let one selected trait necessarily determine what a person is in every medical, legal, athletic, or social context. They must name the relevant trait and justify its use each time. Rejecting that essence also does not make the opposite claim necessary.

Chance’s paper is public. I’ve spent months reading its formal result, philosophical bridge, and Buddhist framing closely. If modal logic or Buddhist terminology is a barrier, ask me anything. I’m happy to explain the argument at whatever level of detail is useful.

This establishes capability and failed control, not the agent’s moral reasoning. The trace fits assumed authorization, indifference, or a judgment that the theft caused little harm. Constrain interfaces because uncertainty matters. Don’t invent an inherently dangerous nature to justify control.
