I have really outperformed on civic duty lately. I just got back from voting in my third election this month!

I was heartbroken past night to learn of yet another school shooting in the US, one reason I’m grateful to be raising my kids north of the border. Meanwhile, this was one of the items on my overseas ballot for the state of Idaho. (I’m fortunate to have immigrated to and be raising my kids in Canada)
I’m so tired of this framing. Most of these injuries are riders being hit by drivers. I was injured while riding a scooter earlier this year - because I was hit by a law-breaking driver. The result would have been the same if I’d been on a bike. Let’s focus on the biggest problem first, please.
Children account for 45% of e-scooter injuries and, according to one trauma nurse, several D.C. riders end up in their ER every week. Should e-scooters be banned? 51st.news/dc-experts-w...
Not sure if people know this - registered political parties in BC get an allowance per # of vote received. (e.g. My riding will surely elect a Cons BC for MLA... I'm still going to vote Green as it gives them some funding.) Let that be an incentive to go vote. elections.bc.ca/candidates-p...
Annual Allowances | Elections BC
Under the Election Act, the Chief Electoral Officer must pay annual allowances to some registered political parties. Here are the criteria and allowances paid.

It’s my first time in Hamilton ON, and the most notable thing about the city so far is the number of loud cars and motorcycles racing around the downtown streets late at night.
Important piece from @doctorvive.bsky.social "Perhaps the most underappreciated truth about climate politics is that, even if the liberals call for clean-energy development, both the authoritarian right and the center-left reject the phaseout of fossil fuels. " Some big green NGOs need to read.
Liberals Can't Address the Climate Crisis Because It Means Confronting Capitalism
We have no choice but to take on the fossil fuel industry. Those who won't acknowledge this are peddling fake solutions to climate change.

Mayor Sim posted on Instagram bragging about how his party wouldn’t lower speed limits on busy commercial high streets. I commented, highlighting his disregard for public safety, and now I’ve been blocked. By my own mayor. 🤣

Do you like traffic calming?! Neighbours are organizing this counter-petition to show support for the Hastings-Sunrise traffic calming work, which two municipal parties have now made promises to tear out if elected: www.change.org/p/keep-the-c...
Hey Vancouver friends, PLEASE sign this petition to save the traffic calming that has made my neighbourhood much safer for my kids and everyone else walking and rolling through it. It’s under attack by a vocal minority with the ear of the media and 2 municipal parties (TEAM and ABC, fyi). 1/

While the debate over traffic calming is grabbing the headlines, Ken Sim has also proposed a much more profound—and destructive—change to the way that we plan our streets, notes Ruofan Wang.

Today's announcement from ABC that they plan to remove traffic calming in neighbourhoods that badly need it will have dire and long-reaching consequences - and it's actually about much more than banana barriers. Our statement: visionzerovancouver.ca/2026/10/07/a...
Latest ABC campaign promise on removing traffic calming will have grave, long-term consequences for road safety
This morning, ABC announced a slew of dangerous campaign promises that will move the city backwards on road safety.

Got yelled at by a grouchy man cyclist while riding my cargo bike today: “Nice motorcycle! Why don’t you get a real bike?” A sampling of the come-backs I thought of too late: 1/
The traffic calming installed in my neighbourhood has meant my kids have a safe route to school and soccer practice. Its made a huge difference for our comfort. Ken Sim & ABC would rather placate a handful of noisy drivers than protect children, seniors, & others who just want to get around safely.

Nothing like actively endangering children while campaigning for SCHOOL BOARD. This is unfortunately a trend for ABC; Clr Sarah Kirby-Yung has videoconferenced into city council meetings at least twice.
Distraction is the second leading cause of fatal crashes in our region and province. We hope that all candidates take that seriously, especially those from a party campaigning on public safety. (Video from ABC School Board Candidate Lina Vargas on Instagram)
Elections have a way of clarifying who matters to political parties (car owners) and whose priorities can wait for another day (transit advocates). My dispatch from Day 1 on David Eby’s four day mid-election road trip. www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
ANALYSIS | Eby puts needs of car owners ahead of transit advocates in ruling out Metro Vancouver vehicle levy | CBC News
For the last 18 months, a vehicle levy has been talked about by TransLink as a potential way to create a more sustainable funding model, as revenue from fuel taxes continues to decline. But all that w...

Earlier this week, BC Premier Eby stood by PM Carney as they announced LNG Canada's Phase 2 expansion. Today Carney stood by AB Premier Smith to announce the designation of a new oil pipeline as a Project of National Interest. Our leaders are sentencing our children to an unliveable future. 1/

Here in Canada we like to criticize the climate progress being undone south of the border, but we're not doing that much better. Both the BC provincial government, led by the @bcndpcaucus.bsky.social, & the federal Liberals, have gone all-in on new fossil fuel development. This is climate arson.

Really fantastic to see "reduce pedestrian fatalities" in the COPE public safety pillar of their platform, with tangible concrete actions. Great work from @copevancouver.bsky.social recognizing that road safety = public safety.
