Double gold for Amy Hunt - she's such a consistent athlete. Incredible mentality. A real shot at being the first person to get four golds at one European Championships.

The highest temperature in the UK in 1976 was 35.9C (96.6F) in Cheltenham on 3 July. So far in 2026, the UK has recorded 5 days above 35.9C including today's peak of 38.1C (100.5F). In 1976, the UK recorded 14 days of 30°C or higher. So far, 2026 has had 35 days of 30°C plus. An all-time record.

Playing tennis today with a group I don't know well and we started talking about small boats and there's just so many misconceptions (like they get normal benefits, that they can work if they want etc...) These were smart professional people who read the news.

Well, I had to ask, didn't I? Pros: it's smooth, without being overly analytic. Although individual support is guarded [bounded], taken together, it's total. Cons: can be a bit derivative, and while many norms are accepted, they rapidly decrease after a bit. Felt a bit dark [Schwartz]. #mathsky

A poster on the side of an old-fashioned English pub saying "Ask us sbout our function space"

Below that, it says "Available for all occasions" and then "Please speak to a member of the team for more info"

Nick is right and there is also a very dangerous assumption here education is the same as training. Academic study is an inheritance owed to our young people and placing it in opposition to "technical skills" is a betrayal of great left wing thinkers such as Orwell and Tressell.

@labouruk.bsky.social This is an unnecessarily dichotomous way to view young people. At school the both have and lack a range of skills / knowledge to varying degrees. This rhetoric is clumsy at best.

Every now and then someone takes a run at me along the lines of "I don't understand why you, a scifi writer, don't appreciate 'AI'," and I'm all, motherfucker, it's *because* I'm a science fiction writer I have the positions I have, how many times do we have to fucking yell "torment nexus," my dude
