There are 33 free seats on our KLM flight to Amsterdam tomorrow, but the airline stuck us in two separated, middle seats. Clearly trying to blackmail us into giving them another $200 to be seated together. Looks like we'll be avoiding KLM in the future.

Tried out Claude Science today. It figured out in minutes what two profs took weeks to figure out and made amazing figures to boot. Stunning! But left me feeling queasy, not for myself, but for our students and our kids, because who will hire scientists-in-training when they can buy an AI?
@raincoast.org is asking a very important question: What Canada are you for? We’re for a Canada that follows its own environmental laws. A Canada where healthy oceans and Southern Resident Killer Whales are part of our shared future—not just our past. 💙

The function of this scheme is to provide the resource extraction industry cover to destroy the last remaining habitats of endangered species, with a fig leaf of "we saved some DNA". It is corrupt, and tragic.

All of a sudden, I'm getting one email after another with my name mispelled. Only 6 letters, so not hard. And the spelling is right there for anyone who sends me an email - it's my email address, it's in my signature. Weird. I guess I'll just blame Outlook, which deserves a lot of blame anyway.
I feel like the federal NDP need to skootch over a little to the right so we have at least one centrist party in Canada.
