Graphic designer. Looking for civility and smart people to discuss the good and bad of this life we live. Those not displaying the positive attributes above can fuck off.🤣
"The decade’s deepest human-development insight was simple. Money can change more than purchasing power. It can change time, liquidity, bargaining, privacy, mobility, the ability to repair a roof before the rain, and the freedom to make an ordinary purchase without asking permission." #UBI
A new article from BIEN looks back at the decade when UBI moved from theory to real-world pilots. Focusing on the period 2006–2016, the article traces how pilots in Namibia, India, Brazil, Switzerland, and South Korea transformed the policy. zurl.co/qE0cw
French forces held a fierce defensive perimeter around Dunkirk and lost 18,000 souls. 40,000 became POWs. Without their resolve we wouldn’t have our nation’s story. It’s estimated 20-60k French resistance fighters died during the war. These fuckers really are vile bastards 😡😡
You'd have to read to the thirteenth paragraph to discover the pull quote for the title was from Marcus Siding, a 23-year-old Swedish man living in Sweden that wanted to become a cop, but his ADHD diagnosis at the age of 12 barred him by law from becoming a Swedish cop Seems relevant
For many of us, the point of Basic Income is to end poverty, by giving everyone a financial floor to stand on.
Basic income is a floor to stand on, but also a springboard, whether that's starting a business, making art, or caring for family, without having to prove your worth through production first.
Nigel Farage (2016), "It's legitimate to say.. If people feel that voting doesn't change anything" "Then violence is the next step"
I just saw a white van signal, a cyclist stop at a red light and a BMW allow someone out. I’m now looking skyward expecting to see a pig fly past.
How long until Farage claims the £5 million was for his social care costs and it was the collapse of UK social care that forced him to do it
Bet it wasn’t a surgery with his constituents.
Don't be thrown by the name of the show. It's a nod to the myths that shape life in America. I was invited to debunk the myths that surround UBI, like how people would stop working and how it costs too much and inflation would skyrocket. These are myths. The truth is that UBI is power to the People.

The top 10% are responsible for about 36% of all discretionary spending (the stuff beyond basics like housing, food, and healthcare) which is about equal to what the entire bottom 70% spend on discretionary stuff. Universal basic income + healthcare would enable so much more spending beyond basics.
K-shaped spending: The top 10% drop nearly as much on nonessentials as the bottom 70% combined
Households in the top 10% income bracket drop nearly as much money on discretionary items as the bottom 70% combined, according to the Bank of America Institute.

France calls out the U.S. at a UN meeting: “The US used to be a beacon of human rights. Not anymore. Today, it stands alongside North Korea, Nicaragua, Mali and Russia. Isolated. And the world no longer listens to it.” U.S. representatives stormed out of the meeting. Well said France! 👏🏼🇫🇷👏🏼
Uber Eats and DoorDash hid tip buttons and set default tips below 10%. As a result, tips for delivery workers fell 79%. In January, we made these corporations change their apps — and in the past six months, we've put $104 million back in delivery workers' pockets. This is only the beginning.
There's a big media stir over Personal Independence Payments to disabled people. PIP is meant to help people manage the extra cost of being disabled, because our society is inaccessible. E.g. taxis, b/c public transport is un-navigable. If we had an accessible society, we might not need it.
It's depressing that this moved me so much, but did. First time I've heard a politician praise a group of immigrants, without caveat, for a long while.
Andy Burnham, "To me, carers should be the best paid people in society, not the worst" "Many people from other countries have been caring for my dad" Andy Burnham praises migrants to the UK who care for our elderly, a stark contrast to Keir-island-of-strangers-Starmer
As though Farage has any worthwhile contribution to offer to the social care debate. Might as well ask my gerbil to answer the Schleswig Holstein question.

The idea that people won’t work without pressure isn’t about human nature, it’s a justification: if work is framed as menial, coercion isn’t cruelty, it’s just “motivation.” Basic income simply puts us outside of their dependency
First episode of season 4 Strange New Worlds. Another Dr Who reference. When are we going to get the crossover episode we all need? #drwho
How about politicians, Nigel? Do you think that MPs and party leaders who consort with and promote rapists and paedophiles should also be jailed ... meme via The Raging Left
Farage’s narcissism has handed Clacton a once in a century chance to make history: A chance to establish itself as a beacon of British good sense, humour and democracy by electing Count Binface. The World and his wife know who Farage is. Clacton voters will be derided forever if they reelect Farage.
Quite a lot of snidey comments re buses ! They matter to many. I live in a small town where you can’t get cheap taxi rides, they are all booked to very lucrative school runs am & pm . The train is a limited service & many people rely on the bus for work. We don’t all live in Uber Land .
Just watched Mandalorian and Grogu. What a waste of 2 hours. A half hour episode at most. Tedious punchy-punchy-pew-pew plot. Lots of nods to original Star Wars. No charm. No engagement. Meh.
If only Reform UK & the far right were really interested in the safety of women and girls If only the police and Parliament weren't instututionally misogynist If only half the human species weren't treated like second-class citizens ...
