Neoclassical econ assumes rationality. The corollary of, "If you're so smart, why aren't you rich?" is "you're rich, so you must be very smart!" Thus, people assume that if powerful, well-compensated CEOs insist that "AI is changing everything," well then, *AI must be changing everything*. 1/

Oh for god's sake. Post-viral illness is well understood and viruses can cause all sorts of weird knock-on effects (e.g. I had labyrinthitis for months after Covid, it's a common post-viral thing). We're now learning measles can reset your immunity. To say long covid is disputed is ridiculous.

Thames Water, the poster child of predatory capitalism announces hosepipe ban. TW loses 200bn litres annually to leaks. Dumps tons of sewage in rivers. Paid dividends, neglected investment. No new reservoirs since 1989. Massive hikes in customer bills. Numerous criminal convictions.

I like Ed Miliband but do think "you've spent a decade mastering this complex domestic policy area, we're rewarding you with a career in international diplomacy" is not the best way to run a country.
