The Houston Chronical Editorial board isn't holding back in this endorsement of Talarico and I am here for it.
In the Senate contest between Ken Paxton and James Talarico, both Republicans and Democrats should prefer a servant leader over a self-serving crook, writes the Editorial Board. bit.ly/4f8kPXl
Another successful New-Bee 🐝 neuro program in the 📚! We were delighted to host Elkins HS for a day of neuroscience demos and lessons. The future is bright with these future STEM leaders! 🤩 Special thanks to generous support from @bcmneurosci.bsky.social and @rsb.org.uk.
POSTDOC OPPORTUNITY!!! The Rutgers IRACDA program is phenomenal: 70% of postdoctoral fellows land faculty positions. Martha Soto (LinkedIn below) is the amazing director and leader of this program. Please apply or reach out if you have questions. www.linkedin.com/posts/martha...

The Hoffman Lab at Yale is hiring! We’re currently recruiting for a Lab Manager and Post-Graduate Research Associate positions. If you're interested in understanding the function of neurodevelopmental disorder genes in the developing brain using #zebrafish, we'd love to hear from you! #researchjobs
Don't be shy to take on a little two-week side project. These five months will be the most precious three years of your academic journey.
Had a fabulous day hosted by @annikabarber.bsky.social and talking science with all her wonderful colleagues that was made better by news of paper acceptance! Something tells me I might actually sleep well tonight.
Senior professors - if you want to help your junior colleagues in these times, I am begging you, review our papers. I have done 25 manuscript reviews in the last 6 years. But my own manuscript is stalled out waiting for reviewers. Relatedly, I won't be doing any more reviews until tenure. 🧪
Thanks @annikabarber.bsky.social for bringing your Assistant with you to meet me today! He did a superb job of supervising my work in your office.
#Artemis is circling the Moon right now. And later this week, our team's experiment launches to the #ISS. Tiny worms. Defined gut microbiomes. Here's why the two are connected. 🧵 #WormsinSpace #CBIOMES #Celegans 🧪 🪱 🧬 🚀 1/n
I think Neuro could use a PLoS Neuro journal. OA, publishing rigorous work across diverse systems using genetic/molecular to systems/computational/cognitive approaches. Have lobbied for this as a @plosbiology.org Adv Board member but it hasn't happened so far. Thoughts? cc@npariente.bsky.social
So excited to find Select at the liquor store in Houston as we are entering spritz season!
I am reviewing a simply amazing paper from a relatively young US-based lab, which is in danger of shutting its doors later this year. My emotions are all over the place. The fact that this does not uniquely identify the lab I’m referring to just deepens the tragedy of this moment in US science.
Some shit is about to go down with NIH study sections, friends. Keep your eyes peeled for change that may affect your grant submissions.
Monitoring gene expression in the brain with a simple blood test? In collaboration with @jerzyszablowski.bsky.social & his lab we figured out how to do it nonhuman primates using noninvasive neuroengineering of synthetic serum markers. nam11.safelinks.protection.outlook.com?url=https%3A...

Me too!!! So excited that this is going to work out for myself and a student!
We'll be there!
just want to state for the record that I am incredibly proud of the althletes representing the USA that are using their platforms to speak out about what is happening here.
Very much worth 3 min of your day.
Sir Ian McKellen performing a monologue from Shakespeare’s Sir Thomas More on the Stephen Colbert show. Never have I heard this monologue performed with such a keen sense of prescience. Nor have I ever been in this exact historical moment.TY Sir Ian, for reaching us once again. #Pinks #ProudBlue
Today called for comfort food. Pinto beans cooked in the leftover deliciousness from a last batch of carnitas + jalapeno cheddar cornbread + greens did the trick.
We're hiring! The Hoffman lab at Yale is recruiting for Post-Doctoral Associate and Post-Graduate Associate positions available immediately. Join us! www.hoffmanlab.net/jobs #zebrafish #zebrafishjobs

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good. Stay free

As a someone with a 33 year NIH-funded lab whose grant is supposed to be reviewed this week, shut NIH down if that is what's needed to end ICE terrorism. Innocent lives are more important 🧪
The Senate may choose to vote together on the DHS and LHHS bills. Thus, a filibuster on DHS may mean no funding for NIH. What my colleagues are saying: “Shut it down, public health will understand. I’ll work without pay again.” - anonymous NIHer
Good morning #acnp2026! Off to a beautiful start and looking forward to a week of excellent science!
Discovered these serving size suggestions while rummaging in some parental cabinets. I refuse to adhere to the guidelines of the pasta patriarchy.
Happy Pre-Thanksgiving weekend everyone! In the spirit of overindulgence I invite you all to feast on a cornucopia of Arey lab preprints (okay only two)! And fittingly their themes happen to be in the realm food and drink! Settle down next to the metaphorical fire as I share the stories...
Here's a big thank you to everyone at NIH who is trying to get everything regarding grants and reviews re-started!!!
When people celebrate the individual genius of folks in science, they should also mourn the collective loss of genius of folks who were actively discouraged or disadvantaged from a career in science because of the same person(s)
