Scientist in synthetic biology and natural products. Formerly served as Trustee for Shorewood Hills, WI. Interests include microbiology 🦠, space 🔭, birds 🐦, cycling 🚴, and the interface between religion ⛪️ and politics 🏛️

There are also reports of a mutiny in the Shorewood Hills Residents Facebook group after Trustee Utschig (an admin) started deleting posts about staff resignations in the village. After a disputed poll about admin policy he has apparently agreed to stop deleting posts.

In Shorewood Hills Trustee Utschig is pursuing an investigation of whether village police "stuffed" the Lodgic building survey, and has pissed off the EMS & Fire union rep by kicking him off the Health and Safety Committee (apparently against ordinance) because the rep doesn't live in the village

Shorewood Hills' Administrator Brian Mooney has finally resigned. The village is now left with almost no administrative staff, a stunning collapse of a local government that was fully staffed and functioning last year. Official Village statement trying to frame it as orderly.

1. "They tried to run us over" has been institutionalized as DHS's license to shoot people. They reflexively go to this lie when they draw their guns. 2. Even with a masked man is waving a gun in her face, this woman repeatedly tells them they are full of shit. Hero.

This is absolutely WILD. Here's the dashboard video posted by @fritschner.bsky.social. Fast forward to about 1 minute. An ICE officer jumps out of a van and pulls a gun on this woman immediately before lying and claiming she "almost ran us over." *profanity warning if watching in public.

We could avoid all of this simply by not covering elections this way & waiting until all the results are in, instead of doing hours of theater & creating space for authoritarians to sow doubt about voter fraud because they've passed laws forbidding the timely counting of ballots in WI & elsewhere.

This bit just now with Kornacki getting word Wisconsin election officials fucked up was pure cinema.

The @nytimes hasn't written a single article asking if "voters will think Tom Tiffany is too radical" because he is an election-denying, pro-ICE, authoritarian extremist. Somehow, his position on the political spectrum has disappeared completely from the National and State Conversations™️

Will Wisconsin Voters Think Francesca Hong Is Too Radical? Here’s Where She Stands.

The democratic socialist is the front-runner to win the Democratic primary for governor of Wisconsin on Tuesday.

nytimes.com

This is a good answer, & no one in the Wisconsin media frames or asks Tom Tiffany questions like this about being too extreme. Whatever one thinks of Hong, it's a wildly different double standard & Tiffany's/the WI GOP's embrace of authoritarianism is more extreme than anything she has proposed.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com · 2w ago

Q: Were you prepared for pushback you received, especially from Republicans, framing you as too extreme for Wisconsin? HONG: What's extreme is Rep. Tiffany has voted against interests of Wisconsinites over & over. What's extreme is that he's an election denier & continues to protect pedophiles

I’m on a small-ship Alaska cruise with my son; our boat rescued a stranded vessel last night and apparently we did that after the Coast Guard radioed Mark Zuckerberg’s yacht - which was closer - and they repeatedly refused to respond. (There was near unanimous booing when the captain announced this)

A Dem apparatus with any media capacity & savvy would push this to the top of people's awareness & keep it there. "Will the Supreme Court light the final scraps of its legitimacy on fire by allowing Trump to continue with his illegal vanity project?"

The New York Times@nytimes.com · 2w ago

Breaking News: President Trump cannot continue building the ballroom in the White House without explicit approval from Congress, a federal appeals court panel ruled. The Supreme Court will likely decide the project's fate.

It’s not a panacea, but the fascists are getting 20-25% of the vote & aren’t dominating politics in multiparty systems. Also, Americans love to point to 🇮🇱 & 🇬🇧, which are two of the worst-designed parliamentary systems. Anyway, more & stronger parties are absolutely a bulwark against fascism.

Noah Berlatsky@nberlat.bsky.social · 3w ago

people love the idea of a multi party system. based on israel, UK, and really lots of other places, I'm much less convinced. our problem is fascism. if we don't defeat fascism, it doesn't matter how many parties we have.

Hearing on good authority that Police Chief Shon Barnes has just been fired. He just left the mayor's office this evening after being inside for quite a while. Barnes is currently calling around the police department to tell his captains. Still waiting on confirmation from mayor's office and SPD.

Barnes’ family residence is in Chicago and he rents here while making frequent trips home and out of town in general. Ive reached out to SPD; during past emergency incidents when he’s been elsewhere, they’ve told me it’s no problem because of his qualified staff.

And again, it doesn’t even matter if these were true. He, a random unelected and unappointed guy, doesn’t get to end run the law, Constitution, & Congress to decide how to set policy. He did, & therefore needs to go to jail for the rest of his life.

Musk still relying on conspiracy theories and lies when it comes to USAID. "USAID was the biggest funder of regime change. Also, its funding was not stopped it was moved to the State Department." "There were claims [that programs were shut down]. These claims were false, nonsense."
