Tonight’s fascist attack on an RNLI lifeboat is the result of years of stochastic terrorism directed at asylum-seekers by mainstream politicians and media. Repeated high profile claims that “we must stop these people!”. The fascists are simply following through on that rhetoric.

10. French authorities putting out a fairly direct warning that attempts to interfere with their actions in the Channel can be prosecuted. Thomas/Tommo is I believe subject to an entry ban to France, which he is thought to have violated once so far.

Worrying scenes in the Channel today, for all interested in asylum policy and maritime tactics. A small boat from Normandy spent more than 30 hours at sea. Those on board now on their 2nd rescue vessel as Border Force forced to play cat and mouse with far-right activists who have their own boat.

5. After around 30 hours at sea, the dinghy was intercepted by the RNLI and those on board transferred to two lifeboats. Two lifeboat personnel tried to secure the empty dinghy. Thomas yelled abuse and knifed the dinghy to deflate it - with a rescuer still on board.

Just a few short years ago Calvin Robinson was a GB News presenter, a regular guest on various talk radio stations, Between 2019 and 2021, a school governor and a regular contributor to The Mail and Daily Telegraph. Now? Well now he's just an open antisemite.

Will keep boringly saying this (no disrespect to OP): it's not a health surcharge. It's not hypothecated to the NHS; you can't choose not to pay it and thereby eschew healthcare. You could equally call it an education or roads surcharge. It's using the NHS's sanctified status to rip off immigrants.

1/ Why did things implode so dismally for Keir Starmer’s govt? I worked for Labour in the years running up to GE 2024 and have since puzzled over this question. Last week I published two pieces, asking ‘what we wrong’. I added a third, expanding on economic fairness – a key theme from the first two.

It’s ironic that in an age when technology, globalisation and climate change have reduced the power of individual governments, we expect the state to do more. This is not, I venture to suggest, a sustainable position.

I generally ignore royal stories, but there's something deeply tawdry about the saturation coverage here. It's basically one person's word against another, involving the parents of two real people who've probably suffered enough from their private grief being treated like primetime entertainment.
