So is this administration going to claim military families are criminals and that we are unsafe because we think families should together and not broken up by irrationally cruel people in power?
President Donald Trump’s administration has detained more than 50 spouses and parents of U.S. troops as it rolls back immigration protections for military families, an AP investigation has found.
"Get away from me right now," King, a retired U.S. Army captain who served in Iraq and earned both a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star, can be heard telling the three male guard members in the video as they approach her on the bench. "You have absolutely no authority to detain me."
A veteran was detained by the National Guard in her front yard. Now she's suing
Military veteran and D.C. resident Anna King has filed a $3 million lawsuit against the Idaho National Guard, saying three guard members assaulted her while detaining her in front of her home.

This is a global threat to democracy, and the remaining democracies need to act against it.
Hey @mark-carney.bsky.social Thoughts? Are we getting off of US services or are we just staying the course? Is our travel advisory still green? Good to visit the fascist states of America?
Tillis and Cornyn have caved to Trump’s $100 million IRS immunity, but that’s just one reason to reject him as AG. Here are many more:
Blanche should be blocked for IRS/slush fund AND - targeting Comey, James, Hearn, Powell, Walz, Frey, MOCs - Epstein - payouts to Flynn, Page, Babbitt, Vaughn - rejecting ethics advice to recuse from Trump cases - “war” on judiciary - “cleaning house” of DOJ personnel who worked on Trump cases
The tax immunity is the most illegal part. As outrageous as it is to give a settlement to the J6ers, it's within the DOJ's power to negotiate financial settlements on these terms. Tax immunity isn't something that can legitimately be given.
Todd Blanche's last-minute promise won over Senators Cornyn & Tillis, but shouldn't have. The "deal" leaves Trump's tax immunity intact. It confirms what the Senators should have already known about Blanche's lack of fitness to be AG. My analysis: open.substack.com/pub/joycevan...
“After being given assurances by Lucy , I will be kicking the football again today.” – John Cornyn
Cornyn: "Given this agreement with Mr Blanche, I expect the DOJ to live up to this in future litigation and I will vote to advance him out of the committee today"

No one in public life talks about red states this way.
Trump: "Look at the blue cities. What do they have in common? They're all dirty. They're filthy dirty. Their streets are dirty. Their streets smell. Their storefronts are broken. Their trees are all gross. Everything about the place is dirty. It's really all of them."
Communist economies degraded under the unaccountability of “soft budget constraints.” We’ll see what happens to the MAGAist national-socialist economy under its soft legal constraints.

Friends don't subject friends to economic coercion and threats of colonisation
As U.S.-Canada relations worsen, Michigan’s Sault area has lost an estimated $62.7M due to decreased crossings. It’s bewildering, a state senator says. He recalls Canadians helping locals fix the grid after a storm: “This is our best friend in the entire world.”
i suspect this won't get nearly the coverage it deserves, but the implications are obvious: trump admin does not want coverage of its failing, illegal wars except on its own (lying) terms. nb: looks like the times is helping defend cole, which is 💯 b/c freelancers don't always get that.
once you go after reporters & their sources, you can start to kiss natsec journalism goodbye
The far right has discovered democracy’s weak point - if you make up enough nonsense about what is actually happening accountable government becomes impossible
He dumped water we needed in LA to fight the Palisades wildfires into the Central Valley just to fuck us over and it wasted water they needed for the grow season. No one remembers this either. It's insane.
👇🎯🧵 This is what more folks need to understand. The fascists aren’t going anywhere & they exist in every country in roughly the same proportion, & it’s a question of whether we keep a set of bad political institutions that allows them to control the government or not.
They -- as in most nations -- are a minority of roughly 25-35% of the population, but institutions need to be restructured to prevent that minority from exercising national power: shifting to some variant of PR, getting rid of the EC, expanding SCOTUS, adding states to fix the Senate, etc. (2/2)
You don’t have to look very far for one rather simple answer to the question of “But what could we be doing differently?” 🌱 🔌💡
The IMF says we pay $5T/year to subsidize fossil fuels — that's $13M per MINUTE to destroy our future. Meanwhile solar & wind fight for scraps. We don't have a funding problem. We have a priority problem.

This is standard operating procedure — at the same time that 🇺🇸 imposes tariffs supposedly discouraging “forced labor”.
The diarrhea lettuce company, Taylor Farms, uses slave labor contracted from the Arizona Dept. of Corrections. The backbreaking labor is often performed by imprisoned Mexican nationals who would be otherwise ineligble to work in the US. They are paid $1.50 an hour.
These third country deportations are among the most evil acts of the Trump administration. They're trying to extrajudicially punish people for seeking asylum, up to and including with death.
