Hi, I’m a sighted alt text user! Here are some reasons I use it: - Slow Internet on an airplane - I’m over 40, I have no idea who that celebrity is - Bluesky broke images again - My vision sucks and that text is too small to read otherwise - Conveys further context and authorial intent

Just did some number crunching using latest (Oct 1) ECMWF seasonal data, and I must say that I've never seen such high predictive confidence in a very wet California winter. This is a truly extraordinary forecast amid a record-strength El Niño event. [Thread: please read to end.]

Model-relative sea surface temperature anomalies for November 2026–January 2027. The supplied grid is displayed without added smoothing or coastal filling. This map does not establish an operational ENSO category.

When we talk about the corrupt Supreme Court, we’re not just talking about Clarence Thomas getting paid off or Scalia doing billionaire junkets. John Roberts’ spouse getting paid by BigLaw firms would also be considered corrupt under federal law for other government employees.

Imagine you’re a law firm with a case before the Court and Jane Roberts calls you up and recommends you hire someone. Even if you have zero interest in trying to bribe him, how do you respond?

Before calling someone a “dirtbag,” the Senator should have had his facts straight. An apology is in order. Glad one of us knew the difference between the Atlanta Hawks and the Iowa Hawkeyes!

This Congress, I am proud to say that I have passed four bills through the House. Not because I compromise my values, not because the legislation is a “gimme,” But because I show up every day and work hard for our community.

Please don't overreact to the SCOTUS SAVE database decision today Page 6 of the decision makes clear that we are in the 90 day statutory window when mass changes cannot be made to voter lists! Yeah it's a shit decision for the reasons the 3 dissenters say but we can deal with it. More to come...

I'm sorry, what? Shakespeare didn't write the play in Olde English. And Shakespeare didn't set the play in a time or place where the characters would've spoken Olde English. Eggers is free to make his choice, but how does this show "meticulous attention to detail"? It shows the opposite?

As befitting a filmmaker who is known for his meticulous attention to detail in capturing a time period, even when it comes to dialogue, sources say that this adaptation will feature actors speaking in Olde English.

A tragic romance, Shakespeare’s play told the ill-fated story of the titular young lovers who hail from two warring families, the Capulets and the Montagues, in the city of Verona, Italy.

NYT has now independently corroborated all the major allegations against Susan Collins in the ProPublica report, including that investigators were prepared to move against her and then Trump intervened to shut it down. This put Trump in a position of exceptional and extortionate leverage over her.

F.B.I. Shut Down Inquiry Into Top Ally of Senator Susan Collins

The inquiry was closed last year because senior bureau officials questioned the veracity of a campaign donor’s account, according to current and former officials.

Greenland will remain part of Denmark under a planned US-Denmark-Greenland security deal, despite Trump claiming the US secured “permanent control.” The pact preserves access & rights US already held since 1951. Denmark retains sovereignty and Danish & Greenlandic parliament still need to approve.

I was wondering today, when ICE didn’t immediately come out with their usual statement…”the ICE agent shot in self-defense in-fear of his life”. But as the day went on, I realized that Eye witnesses are noting he was SHOT IN THE BACK! Next-the reason for shooting into a crowded intersection?

Demand Justice for Wilber Rafael Garcés Pérez. On September 20, ICE agents in north Austin shot Wilber in his car in a vicious mid-day attack while he was delivering for DoorDash. ICE agent rammed his car and shot him in the back then took him to the hospital and later took him in custody. WTF.

I deleted my post about synagogues being attacked at high holidays because people wanted to pivot to talking about churches and I refuse to play oppression Olympics or watch people change the subject to center themselves in a way that’s not intended to be supportive.
