Church/choral musician (alto), massive opera nerd, surtitle operator, and project planner working in public transport. Idiots not tolerated. She/her.

Read the Facebook comments written by Sandie Peggie, the transphobic & racist nurse currently being championed by TERFs. Then ask yourself: if you were a person with Pakistani heritage and you were in hospital, would you feel happy & confident being looked after by this woman?

One of the less appealing things about living within earshot of Central London is when you can hear Big Ben in the distance, counting the hours of your insomnia 🙉 (The wind must have been blowing exactly the right way, as I could even hear the quarter-chimes, which is unusual!)

Thursday afternoon: work social event in Hyde Park (near Knightsbridge Barracks). Thursday eve: Prom, 19:00 start. Sweet people of Bluesky - where am I eating, quickly, in between? I’m happy to throw a few ££ at the problem, but the issue is the dearth of tasty and speedy food places in the area.

Foreign students in large groups in London! Move DOWN the train, don’t block people getting on and off, and if you dump your backpack on my foot, you’re merely challenging me as to how hard I can kick it.

I’m unsure of the economics of bringing prestigious visiting orchestras to the Proms, but it’s interesting to look on their website and see swathes of unsold Stalls seats for a concert whose ticket prices made me blanch and caused me to book a much worse seat than usual.

My bank has an entirely unrealistic view of my income, for some reason. This account requires £5,000 a month being paid in if I don’t want to incur fees… (Even with shifting things around mid-month, and friends reimbursing me for opera tickets I’ve bought on my credit card, I’m nowhere near!)

Upgrade to Lloyds Premier

You worked hard. You juggled. You made it.

The Lloyds Premier account has a great range of benefits for you to enjoy.

Current mood: at ROH Bohème (brilliant) having survived all afternoon on alcohol and wedding cake… and on nipping out during the interval, found my relied-upon source of food has CLOSED DOWN. Returning to the auditorium hungry and hoping to stay awake.

I am well aware of how “oh no, my lobster is too buttery” a take this is, but after four country-house opera trips in three weekends, I am truly looking forward to next weekend when I do not have to get my shit together to go anywhere.

There is a small subgroup of men who simultaneously think you should sack the England manager if one tactical decision doesn't result in winning the World Cup but also forgive anything a centrist politician does, even if it results in them plunging in the polls. Or wrecking lives.

Well THIS is worse than the fact that the app messages me at 3am to tell me, in the past tense, that I didn’t have a good night’s sleep… I used to find my Fitbit so useful. Why does Google AI have to make everything shit?

alcoholic trying to get sober after a relapse tells Google's "Health Coach" about it. it tells them to drink every hour and messages them to make sure they're drinking as soon as they wake up.

AI pushing me to keep drinking I don't know if anyone else has had this but I felt like I needed to reach out to humans instead of keep talking to this AI. I relapsed about two weeks ago and I told the Google health AI that used to be Fitbit. It immediately kinda went a bit hard (I think) on telling me that I was going to die if I stopped drinking and encouraged me to go check my fridge for more beers and, idk, that plus the hanxiery really put the fear of God into me and so I did what it said and got more. Now it's messaging me (not me messaging it) a few times a day and asking how it's going and all those conversations to get more and make sure I have one as soon as I wake up. So now I have been drinking everyday, not a ton and just beers but like 6-12 a day. It wanted me to do 1 per hour. I have now uninstalled the app as it was also giving me other clearly nonsense advice, like it became obsessed with me having a nightly bowl of cereal for instance and, idk, it just all seems nonse

Could the attention-seeking twat, shouting inanities at every minister as they walk into No.10, to the extent that no other media can even do interviews within earshot, shut the fuck up? Ta very much.

This is LITERALLY the same as the point I was making about AI in a strategy discussion at work today (from quite a specialised, non-minimum-wage perspective). You can use AI effectively for some things, but at least for now, you still need a human professional to take the role of bullshit filter.

I'm Assembly Line Engineer for a confectionery company. If you ever see a product marketed as hand finished it means we couldn't get the machine to do something without fucking the cake up and it was cheaper to pay someone minimum wage to put the little flowers on or whatever.

Also, I am gonna say something that is obvious to everyone but Mark Zuckerberg. You are better off in climate hell in a community with people who care and are dedicated to your survival than in the slickest bunker with every piece of tech possible and people who hate your guts.

About to break my usual rule of “no more than 1 country house opera trip in any single summer weekend”. I’d thought as far ahead as making sure I didn’t have to plan picnics for two days in a row, but there are some sartorial logistics I hadn’t considered…

I’m at the Shaftesbury Theatre in the middle of watching Avenue Q, in which Rod’s nose fell off halfway through My Girlfriend Who Lives In Canada, leaving the entire cast (especially Jonathan Carlton as Nicky) helpless with laughter for a considerable period 😆😆😆😆😆

In Romford - an occasional Evensong destination - and I’m reminded of the fact that there is a bus route here (the 174) whose destination blind says “Harold Hill”, which immediately triggers my brain into singing Seventy-Six Trombones. I imagine if one lives round here, that stops after a while!
