Don't posit a theory that is only interesting because it implies X causes variation in Y, test for a statistical relationship between X and Y, but then say you are not interpreting causally. Of course you are interpreting it causally. That was the whole point of what you just did.

If I had to guess, the Texas odds will move in Dems favor as voters start paying attention and realize how uniquely awful Ken Paxton is (although Texas always disappoints Democrats...so who knows). Also, Collins overperforms so Maine might be tough for Democrats...

I am not sure if there is any going back, but a reminder that as recently as about 16 months ago, it would have been considered beyond the pale that government accounts would be used as partisan mouthpieces (let alone ones that pushed conspiracy theories).

The United States and its allies/proxies have been making war on various parts of the Middle East for over 20 years (or longer, depending on when you start counting). In addition to the reckoning needed on US democracy post-Trump, one is needed on US foreign policy.

Could not agree more with @ryanenos.bsky.social. Columbia has lost so much credibility in the eyes of its faculty, students, and staff and is still at the whims of Trump. According to CU's climate survey, >80%of employees feel the university is not aligned with professional and ethical values.

I'm increasingly convinced that online gambling is a vice that should be banned. The difficulty (besides the fact that the courts said the Federal government can't do so) is that there is a whole lot of money behind it now and no (major) organized constituency opposing it.

The answer is always no, because the ask from the Trump Administration will always be poorly reasoned, often poorly lawyered, sometimes illegal, and usually anti-constitutional. Your agreement places other institutions at risk, and you will end up like the restaurant owner in Goodfellas.

Don't cave, Yale! Levitsky and Enos: Harvard defeated the Trump administration in court & won back research funding the administration illegally withheld. It has earned international respect. And most importantly, it demonstrated that civil society can successfully resist antidemocratic attacks.
