At this instant in 1945 (8:15 AM August 6, local time), Little Boy—a 15-kiloton, uranium-fueled atomic bomb—destroyed Hiroshima, killing (per official US military estimates) ~70,000 men, women, and children, incl. 12 American POWs. Independent estimates later maintained ~140,000 people were killed.
WCBS joking aside, if I had the budget to support an extravagant—but not vintage—car, this would probably be it.

Nice car, but feels like it was built for an alternate reality.
I’m at the BMW dealership and the 2026 840i Gran Coupe on the showroom floor looks like a 15 year old car.

Noticing some folks seem to think writers just say clever things without understanding how the world works, as if we're all naifs who just happen to be good with words instead of people with formal educations and a professional interest verging on requirement in the ability to conduct research

Today is the day on which Ray Bradbury's “There Will Come Soft Rains” (pub'd 1950) takes place. It’s a short elegaic story about a smart home slowly dying after its owners are wiped out in a nuclear extinction event. Re-reading it now, I’m feeling softly sucker-punched by what it has to offer us.
I appreciate that people younger than myself view brown as a sort of rich, exotic color rarely seen on cars these days. But they have no lived through the traumatic years of 80% of all physical objects you encounter on a daily basis, including cars, being brown. EVERYTHING was brown.

When Chaz told us his Stylus stumbled under load, the brain trust promptly got it up on stands. They found + fixed several problems. But it still stumbled on full throttle. Maybe it was the fuel pump? But he did NOT expect Aamir to get out his grinder + carefully start cutting into his floorpan ...

Ford’s strategy of selling fewer vehicles at higher prices—with a focus (pardon the pun) on expensive trucks and SUVs—is great for its bottom line. For now. But where does it go long-term? www.wsj.com/business/aut...
Ford Made Boring Cars Popular. It Doesn’t Want Them Anymore.

#OTD in 1964, Task Force One consisting of USS Enterprise, USS Long Beach and USS Bainbridge left Norfolk on Operation Sea Orbit. The all-nuclear-powered unit traveled 30,565 miles around the world without refueling to “show the flag” and demonstrate the Navy’s technical achievement.
Today's Low Quality Ad is for this "Read A Book" Pin. Wait, people actually read those things? I thought the whole point of books was to scan and shred them to fuel the rapid expansion of AI chatbots that will almost certainly be the downfall of society. collabs.shop/kygugh
