Really worth noting that even in Red Wall constituencies which backed Leave, most *Labour* voters back rejoining the EU. Over 90% of Labour considerers back rejoin - opposition to EU membership is mainly coming from non-Labour voters in these seats. Was on Times Radio yesterday making this point.

There was a fucking hole in our planet’s *atmosphere* Like a legit, no joke, “this will unravel our entire ecosystem” hole in the world, and then we fixed it by working together across national and political lines As a species we decided, “we will survive” Let’s do that some more

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

Mark Carney on Elon Musk crippling Ukraine’s Starlink: “I search for the right adjective to describe whoever took this decision… against a country that is literally fighting for the lives of its citizens against naked aggression."

Government support for drilling at #Jackdaw takes a wrecking ball to any pretence of UK climate leadership & pours fuel on an overheating world - and for what? It’s equivalent to just 2 months of UK gas demand, creates just 27 direct jobs & has *no* impact on energy bills🧵1/4

i am on a plane sitting next to a lady who looks 40ish and has informed me that this is her first time flying she is visibly excited. she asked the flight attendant how much a soda costs and was happy to learn that drinks are free on airplanes. she's taking lots of pictures. i love this for her

Incidentally it is genuinely absolutely bugfuck insane just how obsessed Republican campaigns have become with transphobia this year given how utterly non-salient it is and I really can’t help but wonder how much of this is due to Elon Musk personally

I can't get over the Jackdaw decision by Labour. Cowardly bending the knee to Big Oil while setting our planet on fire. A total betrayal of the younger generation, who'll have to live in the overheated world. Andy Burnham is worse than Starmer. Fuck him. Evil, evil man.

Approving the Jackdaw gas field solves none of our problems, while contributing to the existential crisis of climate breakdown. The government has privileged special interests above the general interest. It's a shameful, cowardly decision.

In an ideal world, everyone would follow the rules. But with limited resources, police rightly focus on major causes of harm; last year, 364 pedestrians were killed, almost all of them hit by motor vehicles. In comparison, more pedestrians are killed by cows than cyclists.

Do police in your area let reckless cyclists ride roughshod?

Our searchable database shows a stark variance in how two-wheeled rule-breakers are treated. Some forces say they issue no fines at allCycling campaigners have argued that police are right to prioritise “limited resources” on enforcement on motorists.

Adam Tranter, a former cycling and walking commissioner for the West Midlands, said: “The reality is that the biggest danger to pedestrians is overwhelmingly drivers of motor vehicles. On average, more pedestrians are killed each year by cows than by cyclists.

“By comparison, in 2025 alone, 364 pedestrians were killed and 5,960 seriously injured, almost all of them hit by drivers of motor vehicles. In an ideal world, everyone would follow the rules of the road but with limited policing resources and competing priorities, if you want to improve road safety, it does not make sense to focus much police attention on cycling behaviour.”

The National Police Chiefs’ Council said: “We must all take responsibility for keeping everyone safe on our roads and any behaviour which puts other road users at risk is unacceptable. Police forces are operationally independent and decis

What on earth is this government doing? Approving planet-killing oil drilling in Jackdaw, then no to a different one the next day? Miatta Fahnbulleh is a sellout - betraying everything she said and stood for before she became an MP. I guess some people are easily corrupted by power.

truly a wild time to be alive when the cryptography world is split between those worried about quantum computers and those whose private key is “4”

I do wonder how much the BBC could save on some of the salaries it pays its senior news presenters - and how much it would lose if it got rid of them. I suspect that in many cases you could get far better journalists at a much lower price.

BBC News is a good example of big cuts still to come. Today, it has told staff of 100 more job losses, saving £5.5m. That's on top of previous cuts of £25m and £1.8m. But it has to get to a total of £51m in cuts - so still plenty to come next year.
