I think the bit that undoes the Boots Theory for me is the part where it doesn't feel like *anything* is made to last now - even the expensive stuff. The modern equivalent is being able to afford the annual subscription, rather than having to pay monthly.

"Vimes Boots Theory" is a cool bit of consciousness-raising that forces you to look differently at poverty and consumer culture. But that doesn't mean that it is always and forever true, or that there aren't more sophisticated and truer models with which to discuss both of these subjects.

A very balanced piece on where #NUFC finds itself today. TBH I'm all for the shift in transfer policy - buy young and aim to sell at a profit - albeit I wouldn't mind a couple of veteran additions to provide some balance to the squad on that front. It's also still a painfully thin squad in parts.

We are in the third drought in five years. We have the National Trust and NFU - those radical types - sounding the alarm on unprecedented temperatures. But so little from any single figure in politics talking about the climate crisis.

My home town had a Wendy's - as fast food places go, it was my favourite. Sadly the town centre is now so badly on its arse it didn't stay open long. The second chain to go into that space (after Burger King) and then close. Gutted.

I'm not sure folks have realized just how crazy the second half of 2026 and 2027 will be for global temperatures – on the back of a record-smashing El Niño event. Here is my latest estimate of where both years will end up compared to global temperatures since 1850.
