She protested ICE raids. Then agents showed up at her door

The Justice Department is using federal conspiracy charges to sweep up ICE protesters. Some legal experts worry the agency is casting too wide a net to prosecute political activists.

Exemption of rare disease therapies in drug-pricing pilots would wipe out huge savings, analysis finds

Excluding rare disease therapies from a Medicare pilot program to lower drug prices would wipe out much of the savings from retail drugs, according to new research.

Of course they're not worried. Deficits only matter for healthcare, housing, or kids. For tax cuts, slush funds, and the Iran war Congress never authorized, the wallet is wide open. Fiat means the money's always there. We can afford social programs. Republicans and establishment Democrats just won't

Bessent is fine with deficits to fight needless wars, it’s only deficits to pay for healthcare or education that bother him

This story is horrifying. I was waiting for the moment when private equity was mentioned and then there it was. This is the sad result of a society that values rich people and their money, more than human life. www.motherjones.com/politics/202...

A for-profit hospital slashed costs. Then a patient froze to death on its roof.

A little-known company grew on promises to save distressed hospitals. Instead, it sunk them into financial chaos.

A thought from my old journalist self... is the amount of media coverage of this Fauci hearing just playing into Republican's hands. Does it warrant the attention its getting given everything else going on and the lack of credibility of most of the Rs claims?

I love this so much. Most people advocating for active transportation and safer streets aren't saying *no one* should drive. We're saying that driving should not be the *default* for everyone. We're saying that people deserve *choices*. Yet we are viewed as extremists for this suggestion.

The defendant is not comfort. The defendant is comfort installed as the default; provided at zero cost, written into the code, made compulsory for everyone including the people it does not serve, and then quietly removed from the list of things a citizen is permitted to ask about.

Accommodation is something a society provides for a person who needs it. A default is something it requires of everyone, whether they need it or not. The first is care. The second is a mandate that has been mistaken for natural law so long that we now defend it the way people defend a god; which is to say, not with reason but with faith and devotion.

The MAHA base is balking and Trump knows he needs them in the midterms. This is a notable shift. A few weeks ago, Politico reported Trump was pushing Kennedy to back burner the vax stuff and focus on food. I’m curious to see the polling.
