One of the first "outrageous" claims I saw as Jason Arday's media hounding unfolded was that he ran 30 marathons in 35 days! Wow! What a thing to claim! And the newspapers all suggested there was no evidence he actually did it. Well, they clearly didn't look very hard 🙄 🧵 1/26

When your government says it’s planning to open multiple prisons that will house up to 3,000 children, it’s time to demand a new government. There is no context in which this is legitimate or acceptable.
The Trump regime is looking for immigrant detention camps big enough to hold up to 3,000 children. At an industry roundtable discussion, officials wouldn't say exactly where or when they need them, only that they’re expecting a “surge.” New from me in @prospect.org.
Reform are furious about LGBT books invading Warwick libraries. Reform leader George Finch said he was acting on “a number” of complaints from local people. So Labour MP Rachel Taylor asked the council for the actual figures. There have been zero complaints. via Reform Are Not Your Friends

curious how I haven't see a paint blistering media freakout about Trump STARVING THE TROOPS anywhere close to comparable as when Biden ripped off the bandaid in Afghanistan www.independent.co.uk/news/world/a...

Last week Zack Polanski and the Green Party held a press conference with Chris Packham, the BBC did not play full clips of it This morning, Nigel Farage and Reform UK held a press conference, since, the BBC have continued to play full clips from it
Haven't done this in a while but #PoemsAbout #ThriftStore and #CharityShop reminded me of this little anecdote. Thanks to @alanparrywriter.co.uk and @thebrokenspine.co.uk for the chance to revisit.
The continued political silence over the spread of these anti-migrant, anti-refugee pogroms in the UK is a disgrace. This one has been going on for three nights in a row now and the Home Secretary and Prime Minister haven't said a single word about it www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

Perfect cover art by @mrkennycampbell.bsky.social to express our frustration at just how superficial coverage of the Ceuta 'crisis' was and how it leaned into disinformation used by far right figures, in Europe and beyond. Have a listen for an explainer of what really happened and share the episode.
🎙️ BSIDE SHOW OUT NOW: 🥊 RABAT PUNCH 🥊 We're talking once more to Arthur Snell about CEUTA, the reaction of EU leaders, the failure of the media and what was REALLY behind Morocco opening its border to Spain. 🍏 podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/q... 🎧 open.spotify.com/episode/1CX8...
PLEASE SHARE THIS To the young person (longish dark hair, patterned waistcoat, chinos & DM boots) who left this scroll of papers on the Piccadilly Line train at South Kensington station at about 4.25pm today, I’ve handed it to the station staff at Hammersmith.
Wouldn't it be nice, in a Pollyannish way, if the banks said 'Yep, we've got money, plenty actually, certainly some we can spare and we do want the country to work properly and people to get what they need on services, and investment to be real and lasting, so how can we help?'
The new U.K. PM has taken office with depleted government coffers, ambitions to revitalize industry, and little space to borrow more. Bankers worry the sector could be a prospect for a tax raid to balance the books. 🔗 politico.eu/article/uk-bankers-fear-andy-burnham-bank-tax-raid-fall-budget
A grant?? They're granting US taxpayers' money to UK right wing groups to undermine our democracy as they have theirs? Um, no.
I'm old enough to remember when the entire British right had a month long meltdown about "foreign interference" when Obama said something mildly disobliging about Brexit. The Trump administration pouring millions of dollars into far right political groups in the UK? Not a peep
If only a dedicated group of scientists had warned us about the record heat, torrential flooding, continental scale wildfires, and apocalyptic orange skies
Don’t know who to credit for this. But it is how I feel.
Nigel Farage vs "the establishment" He went to private school, worked as a stockbroker, has been a professional politician for 31 years, has his own TV show, is a brand ambassador for gold, is mates with POTUS, accepted a secret £5m gift, and owns five houses bought outright with cash What a rebel
A massive Georgia data center drained nearly 30 million gallons of water, sparking outrage among local residents asked to conserve water during a drought. Residents of Fayetteville, Georgia, first noticed something was wrong when their home water pressure mysteriously plummeted.
This is such a thoroughly rotten way to go about creating something without giving the credit for the actual historical research that enabled it.
An open letter, to readers, about Charity and Sylvia. I am very pained to feel the need to write this. #queerhistory #pride
I think about this clip all the time. Just the best film, along with all the other Powell & Pressburgers.
Memo to pretty much (but obviously not quite) everybody in the media…
Reform have now lost six by-elections in a row in England, Scotland and Wales. Their national poll rating is 26% – below Labour in 1983 – and Farage’s approval rating is -37. They’re very far from the voice of the people and need to stop being treated as such.
