The Downballot@the-downballot.com · 15h agoSeems like an upset might be brewing in the GOP primary in #MI08 to take on Dem Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet. Trump endorsed Amir Hassan, but he currently trails an absolute nobody who suspended his campaign a month ago by a wide margin.
One of the many reasons to be excited about @wewill2026.bsky.social's #MI07 race against Rep. Tom Barrett (R) is that Barrett has established himself as a skeptic of Trump's warmongering who nevertheless is loyal to Trump.

When there are elites who fear someone like Mamdani for his "socialism" its far more likely they disdain that he actually enforces institutional rule. Elite impunity and the rule of law cannot co-exist.

Kind of wild to see takes that winning a close race vs a candidate backed by every major office holder in your state and the party’s national leadership including senior kingmakers like Clyburn is somehow a sign of *weakness*.
In other Michigan news, the state looks set to elect it's first transgender lawmaker. Joanna Whaley won her Democratic primary and will compete in November for a state house seat, beating a primary opponent who tried and failed to disqualify her for not running under her deadname
One thing that Michigan *may* demonstrate (probably less stark after its all counted) is that while Black folks in general are the strongest voting bloc in support of Palestine, older Black folks in particular are the most stalwart Dems and don't like challenges to the party.
