Teachers cited in this article say they're using "A.i." to develop lesson plans for kids with disabilities and imply that they're feeding student data into LLMs. This is using untested, dangerous teach on vulnerable kids AND possibly violating privacy law.

This is just another way for institutions to individualize a serious systemic problem, while they cater to their real audiences: their boards, and tech companies. And this is not to say that assessments should not change--of course they should.
This post is bringing up some serious 2020 flashbacks for me. As someone who always stayed on top of advances in pedagogy, course design is huge but you can't design your way out of societal collapse.

But universities are ignoring the fact that faculty cannot really out-design assessments to meet the challenges of this moment. We need sustained institutional support to be the best teachers we can be, and we aren't getting it.

I say this b/c tech bros are literally attempting to place a gatekeeper program into the creation process for writing and art. Once people normalize that writing and art can't be created without an LLM, what happens when people can't afford to use that LLM? Gee, you then have a true gatekeeper! 2/
Right now anyone can learn to write or create art. The price of admission is incredibly, super-duper low. Don't have a computer? You can write or draw on paper. Yes, it takes time to learn how to tell good stories or create compelling art, but there is no gatekeeper. 3/

We use the assessments we do because they work for lots of reasons. Adopting new ones because they fulfill one function is not a good idea. The best thing university administrators can do for us is to stop enabling the companies that sell cheating aids by embedding them in everything

Pretty much all of the actually defensible uses for machine learning are analytical rather than generative, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that people keep bringing up stuff that has nothing to do with LLMs to justify their ChatGPT addiction.
Personal view is that everyone, at every level, who is appointed after denying the 2020 election result should be impeached and removed the day after the next election. They have already proved they are opponents of democracy.
