I think there's two main drivers of this: A desperate working class that sees the rich make money out of thin air/cheating, and then fall for the idea they can do the same via speculative "investment" of corporate products And, of course, consumerism marketed as "investment" towards the first

It's very funny that all of the people angry about the government grocery stores are trying to get in digs by revealing that they haven't shopped for their own groceries in decades.

Todd Blanche quite obviously lied to the Senate Judiciary Committee when he told them this was dead. It was never dead. It was just on hold until he was confirmed.
Look, his way to go about it was wrong, but his desire to free the world from a pre-determined fate is fully understandable.

I get where this is coming from, but I think in this specific instance, a a Vulcan wouldn't feel the need for small talk and we could just ride the elevator in silence, literally my dream social interaction.

1. This article is great, and you should read it 2. Another thing I think makes the Yglesias's of the world seem foolish is that there is an inherent assumption that voters are largely rational actors who are rewarding politicians for taking moderate positions.
Jacobin@jacobinmag.bsky.social · 6d agoOne of Matt Yglesias’s defining political positions is that Democrats should be more moderate in order to attract more votes. But moderation is a moving target, as evidenced by the rapid change in public opinion on Israel-Palestine over the last few years.
I really enjoyed Spider-Man: Brand New Day. It was also wild to be in a theater filled with people again. Our show at 6:45 was sold out, and even though our local theater rarely shows anything past 7pm on a weeknight, they had added a 7:30 and an 8pm showing. That hasn't happened anytime recently.
Season 15 of King of the Hill just premiered and an episode covers Hank getting scammed by someone using AI to impersonate Bobby. Safe to say AI hate has gone mainstream.

It's smart in every way, and Gosling isn't just showing up to be the biggest name they had lying around. He signed up to be characters who thrive on the strength of the actor playing them. A pilot in Star Wars and Ghost Rider aren't the A-list for either studio. He's being smart here.

He's able to dictate a lot about these projects because he is the lynch-pin for them. And increasing his fame means he can draw attention to smaller projects afterwards.

If you don't know anything about Harmony Gold this sentence sounds fairly insane, but is actually factually correct in every aspect. I used to hate Harmony Gold on principle, but then last year I watched SDF Macross for the first time, and people not being able to just watch that show is a CRIME.

It's darkly funny that the pathway to ruin for this man is his inability to realize that while he has (unfortunately) become the President of the US, he is still unable to dictate what other countries will do, and that he looks weaker every time he tries.

Now my kid is upset that I put business above them. I hope I don’t have to go through some sort of fantastical circumstances that change my sense of priorities
This is our society at this moment. The number cannot and will not go up forever, and the only possible answer for any need to force number to go up is layoffs. Sooner than later we're going to find out what happens when there is no one left to layoff.
