A small flock of ten Sanderling foraging along the surf line of the shore. The birds are along the centre of the shot, slightly lower on the left than the right. They are mostly facing the camera (two are not), and turned in various directions as they search for food.
The birds are bright white with silver-grey on the head, neck, back and wings. They have long, narrow, black beaks and black legs.
The bright sunshine coming in from the right gives their pale plumage a very bright appearance and their reflections can be seen in the wet sand in front of them.
The beach in the foreground is covered with thick seaweed along the right hand corner of the shot and sand covered in a this film of water as it approaches the sea. The surf is only a few centimetres high and runs along the same line as the birds. The background is a calm, out of focus sea.
