The problem with trying to hide your true beliefs is that eventually you have to say things out loud. For example, "Let's find ways to advocate for feminism that don't alienate men!" okay well eventually you're going to say that women are oppressed by men, or abandon the project of liberating women.

Progress for trans people has been more or less incidental to democratic policy. They rarely even acknowledge queer constituents outside of pride month. Trans gains have been largely a process of consolidation of community resources & knowledge. Science & popular opinion have both been behind.

In asking for more, trans people were only asking for the bear minimum anyway. The thing that trans people were supposedly asking too much for originally in the UK is gender recognition that the UK Supreme Court has now made almost worthless.

the right has so thoroughly poisoned every discussion on these topics that "minors transitioning" instantly conjures up the idea of HRT & bottom surgery for elementary schoolers. and these people will be very anti-republican on most other issues yet completely concede to right wing framing on this.

The thing liberals fundamentally don't understand is that trans people are losing rights they already had. We're not asking for more, we're asking not to lose what we already had for decades. Most sports leagues and the Olympics had inclusion criteria for decades without issue.
