I think this incident is funny, but we should start thinking now about how to deal with scaled-up versions of this behavior, not just spam PRs but also bot-enabled blackmail and harassment campaigns.

I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

With @roomy.space every chat space could be on a different server, but doesn't has to be. It works a lot like an ATProto PDS! Each space has a DID, and can be migrated to other hosting just like an ATProto account. And you'll be able to seamlessly join different spaces on different servers.

I think the ideal discord-alternative would have a self-hosted instance per community (so a "server" really is a server), but all speaking a shared protocol so you can have them all in the sidebar of a unified client. Then you just need unified identity across all servers... atproto solves this???

we don't talk about this enough but ozone (the primary moderation tool) being as bad as it is likely is a significant contributing factor to how inconsistent moderation is on here because the whole design strips context. no account context, no thread context, no post context, etc. it's appalling.
