"Oracle, you haven't touched your food. We're likely to be here a while longer, you shouldn't neglect your health."

"Not hungry." Futaba buries her chin in her knees, and her goggles manifest on her face, as if to hide behind them.

"Is something wrong, Oracle-chan?" asks Haru. The final member of the Phantom Thieves, and the only one who didn't see her Palace, it takes her the longest to understand what troubles her. "Is this about-Oh." She brings a hand to her mouth. "Your surname...it was Isshiki before Sakura-san adopted you...wasn't it...?"

Futaba just buries her face deeper in her knees.

"I apologize," continues Haru. "I...shouldn't have brought it up..."

A quiet falls over the Thieves, none of them sure what to say. The illusion of normalcy has shattered. There will be no return to the convenience of ignorance.

Futaba mutters something into her legs. Makoto starts to ask her to repeat herself, but Futaba looks up, still hiding behind those goggles, and ignores her to address Goro. "You're a liar. You and your Shadow-you're liars! My mom would never do that! She'd never-"

Futaba jumps to her feet and marches off the stage, across the room, deeper into the Palace.

Crucially, the GLOVE has limitations, chief among them that for the device to work effectively and deliver its restraining pain shock, it must come into contact with the subject's bare skin. According to Compliant Technologies, the gloves won't work through dry clothing or thick hair. The gloves will work, however, if the subject is wearing thin, wet clothing, such as soaked T-shirts or blouses. The GLOVE also does not like being dunked in water and will likely be rendered inoperable if this happens.

“What should I name you, koneko-chan?” Haru pets the kitten as she devours her wet food. The kitten doesn’t so much as pause to acknowledge her. Her harlequin coat set her apart from the crowd of monotone strays, but she doesn’t want to give her pet a name as basic as one inspired by her colors. She’s had her for weeks, and yet still struggles to come up with a single idea. Nothing that sticks, anyway.

“I can’t keep calling you koneko. That wouldn’t be fair, would it?”

The kitten finishes her food and mews, as if in agreement. She settles in Haru’s lap, trapping her on the floor of her bedroom. Haru continues to pet her, allowing herself to forget everything else. No business arrangements, no former colleagues to placate and perform grief for, no fiancé who continues to harass her every chance he gets. No ally who murdered her only family, no looming threat to herself and her friends from an unknown so large he’s gotten away with crimes she cannot even fathom. No lost future to grieve, no complex sympathy for someone who stole it from her.

Nothing but her and her koneko, who has no worries beyond when her mama will get home to feed and pet her. Haru shuts her eyes, koneko in her lap, and gives herself these precious moments of tranquility that are so rare these days. That have been rare for as long as she can remember.
