οἴμοι From Classics & Philosophy into making indie games. Currently working on: https://bsky.app/profile/harvest-of-names.bsky.social

There are many games who become worse on purpose out of this primal anxiety to risk the player becoming upset at their own actions. And I think it's bad design philosophy, and it's bad life philosophy too. If we don't want players to act like toddlers, then we shouldn't treat them like toddlers.

Chantal is a poet of games in the sense that she find the sharpest, the most efficient way to conjure an emotion in her audience. A lot of the time it is fear, but there are many moments of humour, intrigue, and serendipitous beauty. Really urging you to attend this talk if you can make it!

yes! as someone who’s been working in procedural text before LLMs were a thing, I really wish people had a sense of the varieties of procgen writing that *aren’t* genAI output. there’s a ton of stuff we can do (including pre-LLM, ML style AI) that’s nothing like chatbot output directly in a game.

Thank you! Very illuminating. We’re so fixated on genAI right now, it’s useful to be reminded of the varieties of synthetic and procedural text flowing through different kinds of experiences.
