I think today is supposed to be the worst heat and smoke day this week. 😩

Far out in the Pacific Ocean, there are tiny islands that few have seen. The oceans around them are full of marine life, from thriving coral reefs to sharks and tuna. The Trump administration is rolling back protections for these places. NPR got a rare visit to a remote area to see what’s at stake.
These are some of the last pristine ocean ecosystems. Now, they're losing protections
The largest conservation areas in the U.S. are in the Pacific Ocean, where tiny islands are epicenters of biodiversity. The Trump administration is now opening their waters to commercial fishing, sparking a battle over some of the country’s most pristine ecosystems.

And now, a little Vivaldi. Michel Tirabosco, a renowned pan flute player, collaborating with Raphaël Froissart. He is a professor at the Geneva Conservatory. Born with physical differences, he began playing the pan flute at 7 and has achieved international recognition for his skill. #streetmusic
'You'll choke too' - an aerial embroidery landscape inspired by all the wildfires happening right now... I'm upset every time I smell smoke outside and somehow we have people starting them maliciously too! But we all breathe the same air so they'll choke too (1/2 - see thread for close-ups)

I really enjoyed reading Piranesi as a literary fantasy novel reflecting on chronic illness.
Came to Sparham to see one of my idols. The dance of death paintings. Painted in the 1480's. Lovely chappies. Gives me hope that in my afterlife some cool skeleton will choose me!
I feel really rough. I wish I'd pushed back more about not going in for that last medical appointment. Very frustrating to arrive, not even have the doctor want to see me, and pay for the outing for days or weeks or months because doctors don't know what ME means.
I agree strongly with this -- in that difficult moment, the possibility of collective effort was conceivable. Not everybody felt it, but many did. I think the political class did not like this one bit.
Covid lockdowns demonstrated, in a deeply imperfect way, the possibility of large-scale social solidarity for a higher cause. That is a prime reason why so many powerful people want us to run screaming away from them into the comforting arms of selfish individualist competition.

Been sitting on this until my physical copy arrived, but Fellow Humans, MY HUSBAND COMMISSIONED ME AN EXCLUSIVE WAVERLY STORY FROM @skyladawn.ca FOR OUR ANNIVERSARY. I have never received a better gift. I love it so much. And my husband. He is great also. No one has ever commissioned me art before.
I slept 13 hours and only got out of bed by force of will. Step one in recovering from an outing that could've been a message on My Chart!
So, no cancer! They said I'd get a call with the biopsy results, but that didn't happen. So I expected bad news delivered in person. Instead, the MA said that the doctor wouldn't enter the room, so I wouldn't be billed for seeing her (only billed for the MA) unless I asked to talk with her.
Here is todays Selection of memento mori. I hadn't seen the angel with skull design before! I nearly missed the skeleton painting as it was so faint
As a PSA: In the last week, two people I know got tricked by scam websites that used AI to replicate the websites of real businesses they had bought things from in the past.

I am disproportionately aggravated because the history book I was reading started out so well and then denigrated so much that it was a painful slog to finish. It didn't need to be like that!

I don't want a "Smart Fridge" that orders milk for me. I want a fridge that lasts 25 years and doesn't have a privacy policy that allows it to share my late-night snacking habits with my health insurance provider.
